The image I have consists of 3 people sitting outside. I want to remove one of them. The picture is a JPEG shot on a several year old digital camera (my sisters). I tried Help but no luck. I did a search of this forum & got nothing.
The PI11 Help states:
1. Open at least two EXIF images of the same image size, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO values.
What does that mean? 2 of the SAME images or 2 of Different images and does it have to be EXIF?
The PI11 Help states:
Auto Automatically removes moving objects from the images (at least 3).
REMOVES MOVING OBJECTS??
The PI11 Help states:
3. Click an image in the Image List Panel. Select the image where there is an object you want to remove.
Tip: For best result, select an image with the minimum number of objects to be removed, and then click Set as key image (the lock button).
Is "IMAGE LIST PANEL" located where the + sign - sign and lock is?
FOR BEST RESULTS select an image with the minimum number of objects to be removed, and then click Set as key image (the lock button).
I just want to remove a person not several objects. Can this be done easily?
Please advise. Thanks

If you just want to extract one person then try the Extract Object feature. On the Command Menu, Object, Extract Object.
Help file says:
Extracting objects
Extracting is another method for selecting and drawing out a subject from your image or object for further compositing. Use Extract Object to extract an object from a selection. You can extract the object in 4 steps: Draw boundary, Extract object, Adjust degree of extraction, then Refine object.
You can also invert the extraction to exclude an object. Experiment with a copy before you try working on the original to get used to the features.

The way I understand (and I could very well be wrong) this feature is that the 2 pictures you open are: (1) the picture you describe with the 3 people and (2) a 2nd picture taken at the same place with the exact same framing without any of the people. The feature then can replace the person you want to remove with what is behind that person by using the 2nd picture. I hope that makes sense. Without the 2nd picture (without the people), the program doesn't know what's behind the person you want to remove.
I'm sure if I misunderstood this feature someone will quickly correct me.

Thanks for the reply. I have used "Extract Object" and the problem with that is I extracted the person and then I had this void where the person was & it was transparent. Did I miss a step or what? I would surmise that even if it was not transparent how could you re-create "what was under the person you extracted" and do it with the expertise so it would not be noticed? Am I missing something or what? Thanks again.

Hi jday,
Thanks for your reply and yes, you made sense. I guess to use SmartRemove you have to anticipate that you are going to have to shoot more images in the same location and framing and so on. So in the event that you would have to remove something or somebody you would then be covered for SmartRemove. I don't know, I am just speculating on all of this, but it seems like allot of extra work. Maybe someone could clarify that? Thanks again.

Yes you are right about the Extract Object and the missing tranparent space. Two ways to replace, one is to have a previous photo of the location and clone from it into the missing area.
The other method is to cut out the whole vertical area of the image and use the clone tool to replace the small missing areas. Takes some practice splicing the image back together, and isn't one hundredd percent fulproof, unless you do it for a living.
You can study the Clone Tool in the Help file if interested. Otherwise, I do not know of a simple and easy way of replacing an area that large.
