how do i deal with the rolling titles ?

Post by xavier23 »

Hello.
I will export a 1h10 movie from Avid Xpress DV to Sorenzon Squeeze, then import it to dvdworkshop and at the same time import 3 subtitles tracks Eng/span/french from a text doc.
Now how do i deal with the rolling titles (with the name of the actors etc...)
that i ve edited in Avid (Avid Xpresspro HD) in 3 langages, white characters on black background?
i guess there is no such tool in dvdworkshop to edit rolling titles?
so should i import my movie (with no subtitles) till i reach the rolling titles and separatly import the 3 end rolling titles segments and find a way to link them to the movie with the corresponding subtitle track?...but the last song is starting before that the rolling titles arrive, so i ll have to be carefull that the last frame of the movie is just the good frame coming before the rolling title etc...
i have NO IDEA how i should deal whit that issue. thanks for any advice.
another question: i ve heard about anti-aliasing colors against flickering ...what is it all about? does movie workshop deal with that?
thank you 4 any help. X

Right. The credits are usually "part of the movie" (added during editing), whereas DVD subtitles are a special DVD feature (added during DVD authoring).

You could do that with a playlist... I think... But, that means that you need four different DVD-titles* (programs). One for the main program and 3 more for the 3 different "endings". (Maybe +3 different beginning titles too, if you have opening credits for each language.) But, if you do that, you will get a pause when during the switch from the main movie to the ending credits. If you can't live with a pause, maybe a different DVD for each language????

* A different meaning of titles: Each program (or each movie) on a DVD is called a title. A DVD can have up to 99 titles, each with 99 chapters.

thank you! i am alraedy happy to read that my credits were to be edited in my NLE and NOT in dvdws. So i ll not be searching in wrong directions.
now a separate DVD for each langage is out of question for lots of reason.
so i ll need 3 or 4 different DVD-titles? that s probably not to difficult to do, but i hope i ll need to burn the heavy movie(>4GB) just once and that the extra DVD-titles will just add the different subtitles tracks and credits which are not heavy to the one same movie...
And when you re mentionning a "pause"... how long will it be? a 10 sec pause? a 3 sec pause? and will i be able to display just the video of the credits with the movie's audio going on so that the pause would not be too obvious?
thanks anyway. i ll test and test and see what i get...
Anybody has advices?
And about my anti-aliasing question?
"i ve heard about anti-aliasing colors against flickering ...what is it all about? does movie workshop deal with that? "
Thanks.X

Right! One main movie with multiple subtitles, and three different "endings".
And when you re mentionning a "pause"... how long will it be? a 10 sec pause? a 3 sec pause?
I don't know... I've never timed it... maybe a second or two, and it's probably different on every player. About as long as it takes for a DVD to get back to the menu after the end of a movie... It will be noticable. Maybe you can fade to black between the transition, and move the transition to before the ending-song starts.... whatever you can do to make it seem more natural.

..
...will i be able to display just the video of the credits with the movie's audio going on so that the pause would not be too obvious?
The audio and video are multiplexed (interwoven) together. They will both pause. In fact, audio "glitches" are usually more noticable/annoying than video glitches!
And about my anti-aliasing question?
"i ve heard about anti-aliasing colors against flickering ...what is it all about? does movie workshop deal with that?
I'll have to leave that one for someone else.
