VS 10+ crashes upon selecting capture

Post by ac37174 »

I recently bought a ADS DVDxpress DX2 and then upgraded to VS10+ The only problem now I have is when I click on capture to select the DX2 as source, videostudio crashes while detecting the source and doesn't go beyond this. Has anyone had an issue like this happen? This was the reason I replaced the Dazzle usb capture device I bought the other day, and exchanged it for the DX2. I have disabled and uninstalled all my other previous PCI capture cards and/or USB devices... I was able to get all my preferences and project properties set but when it comes time to start capturing, VS quits on me.

Analog capture is the trickiest part of digital video. You are almost always better-off using the software that came with your capture device. From your previous thread, TDK1044 is using the Dazzle device with VS10... I have no idea why it would work for one user and not another... Except that analog capture is tricky... :?

Once you've got a digital video file on your hard drive, you can use whatever software you want. (Although, some of us have had nasty problems when that file is an MPEG...)

Hi,

I use the ADS DVD EXPRESS DX2 USB 2,0 capture device. The answer to your question is that the DX2 has drivers that allow it to talk to the version of Video Studio that came bundled with it; ie Video Studio 9 SE. As DVDDoug says, the best option is to use the dedicated Cap Wiz capture software that came with the DX2 and then import your files into Video Studio 10. You could also capture to the bundled Video Studio 9SE and import into VS10 from there. The DX2 will not capture to any other version of Video Studio, or any other video editing program for that matter.

Thanks for the responses.

I tried CapWiz for the first time last night on a vhs capture. It is fairly decent, but there are a few advanced settings I miss that are in VS such as setting bitrate whereas in Capwiz the settings are Good, very good, best, etc... I like in between very good and best, and I can't tell CapWiz to do that :-) I think I will stick with it for now.

Thanks

I use the NTSC DVD MPEG2 setting; 720 X 480 8000kbs with LPCM audio. Remember, the higher the capture quality the better the end result.
