EDIT: I was preparing the following, not knowing that you in the meantime had posted a reply to nosnoop. I will leave my answer as it is for the sake of completeness, but see especially my comments about 'finishing' your mini DVD in the camera, plus the last para.
Nosnoop has already said it -- with mini DVD cameras, you don't have to connect a mini DVD camera to the computer to transfer your video. Just put the mini DVD into a DVD reader drive in your computer and in Video Studio, select 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR'. This command can be found either in File > Insert Media To (either) Timeline or Library; or else if you right click in either the library pane or the timelines itself. (Note: nosnoop's advice is a bit misleading. There is no 'Import Video' command -- the word 'Import' is only used when you get into the Insert DVD procedure.)
Some cameras use a system where the mini DVD has to be 'finished' in the camera before a computer can see it. Check your camera manual on this point.
When you select 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR', a dialogue box will appear, normally already pointing to the DVD drive in which you have the mini disc. If not, point it at that drive. Then select 'Import' (the middle button). The program will 'parse' the DVD for a few seconds, then another bigger box will appear showing the structure of the mini DVD, and the video broken into chapters. You can preview these. When you make up your mind, put a check mark in the little boxes to the immediate left of each chapter, then select Import again. Depending on how many you have selected, this may take some time. But eventually the video should appear in your library or timeline.
Some people have, however, been experiencing problems. It seems that different brands of camera not only use different types of formats for their mini DVDs, but also how they have to be handled. Apart from the 'finishing' route mentioned above, in such cases we suggest that people try copying the contents of the disc to their computer hard drive using Windows' Copy function. Then use 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR' and select 'Import DVD Folder', pointing at where the copy is on the HDD. And with some discs, there is an even simpler method of first copying the disc to HDD and then simply changing the .VOB extension on the files to .mpg.

I am using a dvd ram disk, this according to the manual does not and cannot be finalised.I've copied the disk to my hard drive, it's labelled as vr.movie.vro, I renamed it as .mpg,it will play in windows but with no sound. I cannot load it into video studio, I get the message "UNSPECIFIED ERROR REPORT ID 0x80004002 (16386)
