Problem with pop-up titles

I want to create a scrolling title like in the movies. I put a 10 second block of black color in my time line. I then create a title that has several lines, too many lines to fit on the screen so the title is longer than the screen. I set the animation to pop-up and select the pop-up style that scrolls from the bottom of the screen up. When I run the project there is a long delay (the longer the title the longer the delay) then the title appears on the bottom of the screen and starts to scroll up but ends before the entire title is displayed. if I length end color clip and stretch the title to match the initial entry delay gets longer and the title still ends at the same spot. Can anyone assist? Thanks
