I am following the tips in RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE - UPDATED FOR VERSION 10+ on how to create a dvd. Is it intentional or why won't videostudio 10 create a dvd from exactly what is in the timeline? That drove me nuts for some time as one would think the current timeline is you want to burn.
Anyway, I render the timeline to mpeg per the instructions but when I go to make the dvd, all my chapter marks are gone. Any other way to render to a burnable dvd image that includes my chapters?
rendering mpeg loses chapter marks vs10

Hi Rickeyjt
And welcome to the forum
It is possible to burn a disc from the project rather than from an Mpeg file.
But this causes Video Studio to render the project to mpeg during the burner module.
Many users in the past have found this approach to cause quality problems.
The recommended procedure overcame this problem by advising users to convert the project first, then use the Mpeg to burn the disc. No additional rendering.
I am in the opinion that this is the correct approach.
Ok I admit that the technology is improving and that burning a dvd direct from the project will give good results.
VS 10 is the first version to include the chapter points within the project timeline.
If from your project you go –Share Create Disc you should retain your Chapter marks.
You can try this without burning.
The process will render your project to mpeg and save the rendered files in the ‘Create and burn’ folder. Then use this file to burn a dvd.
By rendering the project first, I am afraid you loose the chapter points. But you can set them again in the burner module.
If you have quality problems when using the project revert to the tried and tested method.
The chapter points are new to VS 10 and some feedback would be appreciated.
Hope this helps

The first time I created the project it burned from the timeline fine. But everytime I made changes to the timeline and tried to burn with Share Create Disc, it would burn an old version of timeline to either Folders or ISO.trevor andrew wrote:Hi Rickeyjt

Where is it pulling the info to burn an old version of the timeline? Deleting temp files did not help either. The timeline can play my changes but it cannot be reburned.

Hi
You indicated that you were burning from an mpeg2 file.
Quote:- Anyway, I render the timeline to mpeg per the instructions---Unquote
When you change/edit the project within the timeline it does not change the mpeg 2 file.
You have to create a new mpeg 2 file of your edited project. (Share Create Video File)
Then use this new file in the burner module.

I realize you apparently must create an intermediary mpeg file to complete a burn of the current timeline. However, without going through that step, vs10 will create folders, etc., directly off the timeline the first time.
I was trying to determine where vs10 was reading old information when trying to create a build off the current timeline.
DVD Workshop does not behave this way. So far for me, this process is affecting bringing along all my chapter marks into the final burn so why bother to use them in the timeline.
It seems as though this is bug and will eventually be corrected.

Hi Rickeyjt
Video Studio 9 and 10 use two working folders.
One is for editing File-Preferences (f6) from the main timeline.
The second for the Burner Module. This can be located by clicking the ‘Settings and Options’ icon lower left and selecting Preferences (F6)
This second burner working folder is where the temp rendered files will be stored.
In order to use the chapter points within the timeline you must use the project in the burner module.
Either by going direct to the burner (Share Create Disc) or from a new project (Share Create Disc-Add Project.)
As a test I created a TS folder from the project, then edited the project and created a second.
The second was not a copy of the first and showed the edited version.
Afaik The temporary files will be saved after you close the burner, provided you save the main project again.
Exiting the project without saving will remove the temp files.
All the Best

Sounds like you are saying it should work, but it still does not. The timeline is the only thing that plays back correctly.
From the timeline F6 shows c:\temp and a working folder and under additional folders for preview is c:\temp, c:\windows\temp, g:\temp.
Go to Share Create Disc preferences and working folder listed as c:\temp.
Now if I click on Play at create disc screen it will playback an old version of the project. Add/Edit Chapter shows all the old chapter info and not the timeline chapter info either. Click on Next and Preview will show the same old version and not the timeline version.
Perhaps it is a codec error on my machine? I tried setting Playback method to High Quality Playback and playing the timeline errors with 'Unable to compress the video. There may be a codec driver error or the frame size is not supported.'
I know I am having trouble playing vob files in different programs, one may show only video or one may have only sound but not both. Is there a way to wipe all video codecs clean and install one set?

Hi
Just to assure myself that it works I ran a test again
Started a new project
Inserted the first library video clip (v01)
Added five chapter points at 01, 03, 05, 07, 09, seconds.
Share Create Disc
Next
I selected the thumbnail template 05vs with the brown background
I saw 6 chapter points.
I viewed the menu using the remote control icon.
This played ok
Close
VS saved the project and returned to the edit timeline
I saved the project as ‘test 1’
I removed the last chapter point from the timeline
Share Create Disc
Next
I had to select the thumbnail template again ( brown background)
The chapter points indicated 5
The menu page was showing the edited project. Not the original.
Does your editor do the same?
It seems to work ok on my pc.
Codecs
The correct codecs should be installed when you install Video Studio
As you mentioned other video related problems you may well have a conflict of one sort or another.
Codecs are not something I have had problems with, and therefore difficult to comment
Hopefully other more knowledgeable on the forum will help.
