Hi, brand new user of VideoEditor 10. Still using trial version, will activate shortly, but need help understanding some things.... Please help if ya can

1. Why during playback of clips (recorded from digital satelite tv onto a dvr, imported into Ulead), does the audio want to pop and click and sound kinda cheap? I've tried clicking the 5.1 button on and off. Not sure what the story is. I don't have dolby 5.1 surround speakers either. Help?

2. How can I combine several clips into one longer clip? (instead of having a bunch of smaller clips running together)

3. Under the "poject properties" tab, then "edit", then the "compression" tab, is MPEG audio appropriate rather than the "dolby 5.1" choice? I do not have dolby 5.1 surround sound speakers hooked up to my computer, and I want the best quality sound and video for my setup. Also, does moving the slider from 70 to 100 mean a better overall quality? Help?

4. When creating a dvd, and the menu, I've tried changing the picture of the menu that V.E. 10 offers, rather than use the default. How can I just create a simple "black background" for my main menu for the dvd I'm creating, with say... simple white text (instead of the default background with the flower laying down)? Also, if the menu has a "2nd page" to the chapters, how can I get them all on one page?

Yes, I've looked and read the pdf manual, but I guess I'm a little slow and simple, cause I'm not getting it. Please help. Lots I'd like to do with this, but don't want to pay to activate until I know it can and will do the things I want. Thanks for all help!

Don't have time to answer each point individually as its 2am here in the UK and I'm about to get off to bed.

Take a look in our tutorials sections and in particular this one:
From camcorder to DVD with VideoStudio

There are several other tutorials in the same section.
Also look at the tutorials for DVD MovieFactory as many of the procedures are the same.

Hi Tom

Welcome to the forum.

Q—1
Playback is usually ok but can suffer if your pc is slow.
Update your profile to include your pc spec’
If it is purely an audio problem, try playing the files using Windows Media Player or Real Player.
Is the audio problem still apparent?

Q—2
The clips in the timeline are only thumbnails, links to the main files on your hard drive.
You can play the clips in ‘Clip Mode’ or ‘Project Mode’
Using Project Mode all clips in the timelines will play together.
To switch to project mode either click the word Project adjacent to the play button or click the rule at the top of the timelines.

Once you have completed the editing you combine all the project into a new video file by Share Create Video File.

Q—3
Afaik The Digital Dolby choice from the project properties selects DD 2.1
I think you have to select dd5.1 from the audio section of the program.
Using Digital Dolby is probably your best choice.

The 100% slider, I always leave it at the default setting, others change it to 100%
Afaik in simple terms it controls the amount of work the program puts into rendering (converting a file)
70% is enough, 100% will take longer but will we see the difference.
Others on the forum will explain more clearly.

Q—4
You can use your own images for the background, from the Edit Tab—Background image/Video
Create a black image

Depending on the template used, Using a Thumbnail template-Gallery tab--uses up to 8 per page.
From the Edit Tab select customise—drop down box-Layout

Note:-The trial version may be limited in the amount of menu templates available.

Read the recommended procedure from the top of this forum
My quick guide from the link below
And as Steve has mentioned the tutorial section.

All the Best

And one last thing....for now. You say you will "activate" the trial version. If you mean purchasing a key to unlock the trial DO NOT do that...step away from the computer NOW!  If possible get the boxed version which has the extra content stuff on a CD or get the download version. In both cases uninstall the trial before you install your full version as there have been a number of reports of difficulties when people have tried to "unlock" or "activate" the trial into a full version.
