Failed to Open MPEG encoder

Post by quintalcosta »

Does someone tell me what to do?

I am using MSP8

When creatig a video file using file/Create/Video File menu, I always get to the point where I get the following message:

Failed to Open MPEG encoder

Then creating a file, stops.

Up to this moment, I had no problems doing this operation, and everything went with no problems.

What might me hapening?

Somehow the MPEG settings got screwed. Run the uninstaller then choose the "Repair" option. That should put things back to ground zero.

Are you using the trial version? Because of licensing costs, it may be that the encoder, which is 3rd party, could be disabled in a freebie version. I'm not sure in this case, but I do know that other 3rd party features are either disabled or ultra-limited in the trial version.

Thanks guys.

No, I am not running the trial version. Also using repair didn't help. I even uninstalled and reinstalled MSP8 but the problem persists. I just can't create a file.

You say that the encoder is a 3rd part software. Can it be installed separatly from MSP? where to find it?

Thanks

It's an MPEG encoder plugin by MainConcept, and it's built into the program by way of *.dll's.

What's possible is that some other program using MC's plugin is interfering. This happened with Adobe's Premiere 6.5 at one time when they stepped on Uleads installation. It took a patch to MSPro 7 to un-do their mess.

Thanks Terry.

Wathever the cause, what I really need is a way to fix this, because I am absolutly unable to use the program because of this.

If all you need is MPEG encoding to finish off the project you can go two alternative routes;

1. export an AVI then encode it using another program.

2. use DebugModes freeware frame server to link MSPro up to an external encoder. It does this by creating a new filetype in the MSPro export dialog. You select this and 'save' a small with an *.avi extension.

This file is just a placeholder for an external program to load and make the connection. From there the external file does the encoding while the frameserver manages the bits.

In either case you need an external MEPG encoder to finish with as little fuss as possible. Try this one;

TMPGEnc is not the fastest encoder, but it is one of the most popular. This is an earlier build that TMPGEnc is keeping around as a teaser for their newer stuff.

I have run into this before when using 5.1 surround audio. Reduce your video bitrate below 7000 and it usually works OK
