Sony Digital8 vs Hi8 and Video8
Sony Digital8 vs Hi8 and Video8
I have been given a tape to convert to DVD which came from a Sony Digital8 video camera. It will not play on my normal Sony Video8, nor my Hi8 Camera. Do I really need to buy yet another Sony camera just to play the thing?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
MF2, MF3, MF4, MF5, VS7, VS10+, VS12, Nero Vision Express. Ricoh and Sony 16x DVD recorder, Sony HC5 High def camera. Also Canopus ADVC110 for AV/DV input through firewire
You will need a digital-8 playing device (camcorder or standalone tape deck). Can you borrow the digital-8 camcorder from the tape owner?
Also, if it was recorded in LP mode (90 minutes per standard length tape), then you might have problems playing it back on anything but the original camcorder that made the LP recording.
Regards,
George

Yes, a Digital 8 camera will play Video8 or Hi8 tapes, but Video8 or Hi8 cameras won't play Digital 8 tapes.

Not all Digital-8 camcorders can play hi-8/8mm recordings, so check the camcorder specs to make sure it has that function if that is the route you are taking...Black Lab wrote:Yes, a Digital 8 camera will play Video8 or Hi8 tapes, but Video8 or Hi8 cameras won't play Digital 8 tapes.
