mov files on VS10

Post by johnevans4 »

Perhaps someone could help me with a little problem.
I have got a nikon camera that produces MOV video files ,when I edit them in VS10 + the clip is displayed but when I try to play it it is jerky and the sound is jerky .If I load several clips and render them the result comes out OK ,It's only when I am previewing the clip in VS10 that I get the trouble .I wondered wether I need a mov codec for Windows Media Player .I think VS10 uses media player to preview video.

Hi

Video studio project playback can be poor.
The playback has to be in real time, if your pc is slow you may have problems.
The type of file used also influences the playback quality.

If the rendered file is playing ok then you have no problems.
The render is not in real time, it takes as long as it takes. Whereas playback has to be in real time,

You can change the playback method File- Preferences-High Quality
This will create a preview file of your project. ( it will take some time.)
This file should play ok

Hello Trevor.

The camera I had before was a fuji e550 and the video on that was very good 'MJPEG' I had problems to start until I found an MJPEG codec then there were no problems so I thought I could sort this out in a similar way .The playback of AVI files from my camcorder are OK .

Thanks for the reply . John.

I might just add that VS10 does not use WMP for previews, but its own internal programming. And if it is going to use any third party software to play .MOV files, it would of course be at first instance the QuickTime program which is included in the VS10 installation. QT uses .MOV as its native format...
