Hi,
I recently posted in regards to my recent Dazzle purchase. I am going to return that device due to incompatibility with VS, and would like to know what I could exchange it for that is compatible and works well with VideoStudio. I see the ADS Technologies has several capture boxes that come with VS bundled, such as DVD Express, etc. The DVD Xpress DX2 Video Input Adapter looks like a decent item, but was wondering if anyone has experience with this hardware and/or would recommend something more compatible. Thanks, I really appreciate your suggestions. I just upgraded to VS10+ so as you can see I want to be able to capture without having to go with other software
Thanks
Recommendation for capture device

Hi
The easiest way to capture from your Dv Camera is via Firewire.
You will need a firewire card and cable. Aka (IEEE 1934)
For more reading. From Video studio Press F1, search for IEEE
For digital capture you need a firewire.
If you need to capture from an analogue source you will need some form of capture card.
Unless your Camera has ‘Pass-through’ / Through-put capability.
This allows you to connect AV-In to your camera and DV – Out to the pc.
Others on the forum will have recommendations for an analogue capture device.

As I capture from both DV and Analogue, I use the ADS DVD EXPRESS DX2 capture device. This is a USB 2.0 capture device and it works very well. The DX2 box does the MPEG2 encoding and takes a lot of work off the PC. It captures using the DVD MPEG2 format and comes bundled with Video Studio 9 SE. I chose to purchase Video Studio 10 rather than install VS9 SE. One caution; Video Studio will be happy to edit, render and burn the MPEG2 files generated by the DX2 as long as you don't use the 'Smart Render' function, but using the 'Smart Render' feature on a file generated by the DX2 will sometimes produce a corrupt and unstable file that will be out of sync. I have never trusted 'Smart Render' in any version of Video Studio if I'm editing with MPEG2 files; VS10 is no different. I find the render times in VS10 to be quick and I therefore don't need the SR feature.

Thanks for all your posts. Sorry for not clarifying earlier, but I already have a firewire PCI card, which is used to capture from my DV camera. The unfortunate aspect of my digital camera is that it is a 2001 JVC model with no analog inputs! DV and AV outss only. And of course, USB out for still images. I have a Leadtek PCI card for analog capture, but I've never been impressed with it, and would like to free up that PCI slot. I was always against USB capture devices, yet I have heard some pretty good success stories with them. It's almost impossible to find firewire capture devices these days. I don't have a lot of analog VHS tapes left to transfer, but I'd like to see better results before I transfer any more.
Thanks,
AC
