Import DVD - Unspecified Error
I'm trying to import a DVD and whenever I select the option in the file menu, it gives me the error "Unspecified Error - Report ID: 0x800040002(16386)". It displays this message twice and then displays the message "No Initialization".
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
Thanks.

What is the source of the DVD you were trying to import? Is it from a mini-DVD camera? If so, have you checked the camera manual to see if you have to 'finish' the dvd in the camera before putting it into the computer drive? Have you also tried first copying the contents of the dvd into the computer using Windows normal copy/paste routine rather than VS? Then seeing whether VS will see those files? And/or have you tried changing the extension of such transferred files from .vob to .mpg?
If the DVD is a commercial one, then it will be copy protected and VS cannot transfer from such discs.

LOL. Alright, fair enough.maddrummer3301 wrote:You can't possibly believe that paying $25.00 for a dvd movie that cost 150 Million to produce gives you the rights to it?
Play the dvd and when the warnings appear pause it and carefully read the wording. The latest wording has been updated from past dvd's to get the point across better.
Don't feel alone, many people also think they have a right to back them up since they purchased them. But, that's not the law.
Talk to Liu (inside joke![]()
I don't think anyone here cares what you do personnaly. Your just not supposed to ask for help. You figured out how to rip it, so I'm sure you can figure the rest out yourself.
You can also write to this organization for help, I'm sure they can give you an answer.

.
But the problem itself has nothing to do with whether or not I'm copying a commerical DVD or one of my own. The problem is that I can't even use the feature and I still can't get it figured out.
Anyone else have any solutions/ideas?
No! You can't do this at home. CSS does not work or recordable media, and you need an EXPEN$IVE license:does anyone know if we can add copy protection to our videos with VS10+?
The licensor of CSS encryption technology is DVD CCA (Copy Control Association), a non-profit trade association with offices at 225 B Cochrane Circle, Morgan Hill, CA. There is a $15,000 annual licensing fee, but no per-product royalties. Send license requests to css-license@lmicp.com , technical info requests to css-info@lmicp.com . Before December 15, 1999, CSS licensing was administered on an interim basis by Matsushita.
Macrovision licenses its analog anti-recording technology to hardware makers. There is a $30,000 initial charge, with a $15,000 yearly renewal fee. The fees support certification of players to ensure widest compatibility with televisions. There are no royalty charges for player manufacturers. Macrovision charges a royalty to content publishers (approximately 4 to 10 cents per disc, compared to 2 to 5 cents for a VHS tape).
Normally, personal use copying is OK (here in the USA) under the fair use copyright exception. It's the same exception that allows Xerox machines in public libraries. It is still OK to copy CDs (for personal use) because there's no encryption. There is a court case (Betamax) and a law (Audio Home Recording Act) that confirm our rights to make personal audio and video copies, but these came before DRM, CSS and the DCMA. And, The DMCA makes it illegal to crack copy protection. BOTTOM LINE - IT IS ILLEGAL TO COPY DVDs IN THE USA!"Illegal copying"? I own it, it's the same as backing it up. I just want to cut and edit some parts of it.
A lot of users are reporting problems with DVD Import. I suspect this feature is buggy!Anyone?
This is just a guess, but Ulead's import feature may also have trouble with the extra "junk" in some commercial DVD MPEGs (VOBs) like subtitles, addtitional soundtracks, multiple angles, etc
