VS8 Crashes with Dazzle Platinum
I just recently purchased the Dazzle Platinum USB 2.0 av capturing device to see if it worked better than my Leadtek PCI card, but got stuck in the Capture mode upon selecting capture device. The program immediately pops up the windows close program message and everytime I launch VS8, it never lets me get anywhere and goes straight to the close program screen. Is there some kind of bug with the Dazzle and VideoStudio 8? I wasn't too fond of their capturing software bundled with the device, and hope I can still use VS to do the capturing... Any suggestions before I choose to upgrade to version 10??

Your Dazzle device is made by Pinnacle, and that is a company which limits use of the device to the proprietary Pinnacle software which comes with the device. In this case, I imagine you will have some SE version of Pinnacle Studio... You will probably only be able to capture using that. But you should then be able to open the files in VS8.
Mind you, I think that Pinnacle Studio can only capture Type 2 DV. But once it is in the computer, then I think you should be able to edit it in VS8. I say this because less powerful computers seem to have trouble actually capturing DV Type 2 but not Type 1. But once captured, I don't think computer resources are as important. However, someone else might be able to comment on that.

Sorry. I cannot make any recommendations as I don't use external USB capture devices. (I have an internal TV/capture card -- a Winfast DTV2000H -- and use a Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV480E to capture my analogue 8mm video collection and transmit to computer via firewire in DV format. This camera also allows me to connect a VCR to it and use it as pass-through via firewire to capture my VHS videos as DV.)
But I am sure there are plenty of other people out there who will be happy to make recommendations.
