Slow stuttering recording - to really fast playback

I just want to transfer old vhs tapes of the family to dvd etc. I am trying the trial version, but when I record the image view looks staggered and slow, and bitty, but when its recorded it plays back at a really fast time....any ideas?

I'm using the old composite red/white/yellow cable with a Belkin F5U228 USB capture device
