System crash at burning stage during file conversion

Post by EvilKiwi2006 »

Hi,

I am new in here although I have been playing around with previous versions of Videostudio. I have just got VS10+ and am having trouble with the system crashing during the file conversion at the burning stage. I just really wanted to know what some good minimum system requirements woud be. I know there are offical VS guidelines but thought I'd get a fw opinions from the VS community as I haven't had any probs running previous versions of VS. Currently running WinXP with a 1.8Ghz AMD Athlon processor with 512MB DDR 333 ram. I just really wanted to know if upgrading the processor and/or Ram would improve the system capability during this phase. I have followed preferences and project properties guidelines from this forum and still seem to encounter the same problem at the same place. Any opinions and thoughts appreciated.

Hi, Evil -- love your nickname! Once were worriers, eh???

Anyway, you have summed up your problem in one when you say it occurs during the file conversion process while burning. The point is that there should not be any file conversion occurring in the burning stage. If you read the top Recommended Procedures post, you will see the detail. But essentially, after doing your editing, the file conversion should be occurring then by going to Share > Create Video File > PAL DVD. This will then produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2. You then close your project, then, and only then, select Share > Create Disc > DVD, and insert your new mpeg-2.

What you don't do is avoid these two separate steps, or use your VSP files in the burning module. Even though that is theoretically possible, too many people have too many problems when they do that.

And also check in the second of the three icons along the bottom left corner of the burning page to ensure that (1) the burning properties shown in the top pane are *exactly* the same as the properties of your mpeg-2 files; and (2) make sure the box 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files' below that is ticked.

If the properties in the top pane are in any way different from those of your mpeg-2 (except perhaps in audio), then use the 'Change MPEG Settings' button immediately below the top pane.

You can in fact change the audio setting here from, say, LPCM to, say, Dolby, and the video itself will not be recoded, only the audio. But it is much better to make sure your audio is exactly the way you want it to be on the disc, in the first stage (Share > Create Video File).

As for your computer, it is certainly up to the job, though as they say, more is always better! Hell, I have an old Dell laptop which only has a 1GHz processor and 512 MB RAM, and I use it regularly for burning DVDs with an external ASUS burner.

Thanks Ken.

My friends and I did have an experiment with the recommended procedures last night but for some reason just kept getting confused with all of these settings. I think you outlined it pretty well in your post. I understand that there shouldn't be a conversion process happening in the burn step but despite our best efforts to follow procedures in recommended prcecedures this kept happening. We will try again and will see the results. Thanks again.

Thanks Ken

We have been able to successfully burn our project. I think I had read through all of the relevant info but just didn't take it in properly. Thanks for your assistance in steering us in the right direction.
