I try to uninstall Photo Impact 3.0 using Windows control panel facility.
I get this message: > Close Quick Album running in the background<
I can find no trace of Quick Album anywhere on my XP system so I can't do the uninstall. Help!

The QuickStart is not actually a program but a Shortcut to the Album and is on the Windows Launch or in the System Tray.
Find the correct Icon on the Bar and with the mouse left or right click the QuickStart Icon and Shut it down. Then proceed with the uininstall.
You can find additional information about Quick Album in the Manual under Installation and Running Programs on page 18.
If you cannot find the Quick Start Icon on the System Tray then look for it in the Start, Program, and then Startup menus. Delete the Shortcut. You may have to reboot to terminate the program.
