Custom Overlays

Post by Spicypeanut »

hello, i was wondering, how do i make a custom overlay, what i plan to do is, have one video file of me doing somthing on one side of the screen, then have me on another video file, doing somthing else, and put them together, so it looks like there is two of me.....

i can see how to do it with this software, but the overlays are all heart, star ect ect shapes. i just want a "half screen" shape, if thats possible.

Many ways of cat skinning.

The best way is possibly to green screen the two "yous" over a background, so this looks homogeneous. Read p.109 onwards in the manual.

Another way is to rigidly fix the cam on a tripod and film you#1 to the left of centre and you#2 to the right of centre. You then crop the "unused" part of the two videos, possibly with a small overlap) and position them carefully using Moving path and keep aspect ratio, so that the background appears homogeneous. (In fact, you do not need to crop the clip on the V1 track, as the V2 track will appear on top of it without transparency). This way does not even need the use of overlays, but may be trickier to reach perfection.

Charlie Hills' book is hot on green screening and overlaying.
