I notice that the uvPL.exe is loaded/run during startup. Does anyone know what this is for? Can I safely delete it or disable it?
I don't want loading unnecessary programs to slow down my startup or running unnecessary background processes. That's why I have disabled programs such as qttask.exe (QuickTime) during startup.
TIA.
uvPL.exe on startup - what's this for?

It just like the Quicktime you mentioned. It is Ulead's way of cheating and making you believe that video studio loads faster than it does. They set it to preload on windows startup so there is less to load when you load the application. I've disabled it and it really irks me to no end that software companies do this.

Ahhh... That's why they are advertising this "New" feature of VS 10+:
New! Faster program start-up for the wizards and main
editor means less waiting so you can start editing right away.
I definitely don't need that; no point in slowing my every startup and occupy resources all the time just for that few seconds difference on starting the program. I will disable it.
On a related note, I really don't like Ulead's installation package which installs components such as DirectX and QuickTime without info or warning (unless you check the manual). Maybe less headache for support for new users, but they should at least give a choice of "Full" or "Typical" install for new users and "Custom" install for more advanced users.

I agree! You should be given the ability to choose what is being installed and if it is required for installation you should be made aware.nosnoop wrote:On a related note, I really don't like Ulead's installation package which installs components such as DirectX and QuickTime without info or warning (unless you check the manual).
