DVD burned without any sound

Post by johnmnz »

I've captured a tape, split it into scenes, copied the scenes to the copyboard and played em back from there. All the sound is there. If I then try to burn a DVD with a menu or chapters on it, I get no sound at all on the DVD. So far I have managed to create one decent DVD (No menu, no chapters) and 9 coasters. Also, if I create a menu, it does a fairly decent job except that I can't get rid of that ugly lily and the words "Your title" appear even if I erase them.
This is VS version 10 on the latest service pack of Windows XP.
Yes, I have read the "Recommended procedure - updated for version 10" and thought I had followed it to the letter.

I should also mention that I have used the Share tab to create a DVD. I don't know why the recommended procedure says not to as it seems the logical way to do it (even tho it doesn't work).
I'm starting to think that sitting on the floor in front of the TV & VCR and shuttling back and forth is easier than this.

I suspect you have an SE version of VS10. Can you confirm please. I am also not sure what you mean by 'copied the scenes to the copyboard' -- what exactly do you mean by the latter? The 'storyboard' of Video Studio, or XP's clipboard?

You will also need to tell us the properties of your captured video (right click on a file within Video Studio and copy down the Properties). And also those of the DVD, and particularly the audio codec you are using. It sounds as though you are either capturing video with Dolby audio, or else trying to produce a DVD with Dolby audio and your version of VS 10 is not able to decode or encode in Dolby audio. Only the full version of VS10+ has the licence for Dolby.

As for the menu, if you only have the menu with the lily as the choice, then that suggests further that you don't have the full version of VS10. The full version gives you a number of similar 'smart' menus plus a larger selection of standard menus.

But even so, you can edit the lily menu template extensively. When you insert the lily template, then on the upper left of the burning page, there should be two tabs, one labelled Gallery which shows available menus, and beside it a second tab labelled 'Edit'. Clicking on the latter will allow you to change the background from the lily to any photo you want to insert. You can change the font, add background music etc. And even without that, you can simply double click on My Title, and a little box appears around it. You can then either highlight the words My Title and delete them or substitute them with you own title. The same with the names of the clips in your project, with appear down the side of the lily photo.

Mmmmm

Hi

In the old days of slow computers, low memory, simple video editing technology, the means of burning a dvd direct from a project (VSP) file was unheard of.
It was just not possible.
I learnt to Create a Video File first then burn the video file, you had to.

But things improve, technology moves on.
I do not know which version first allowed this approach, being new caused some problems.

Reports from Version 10 seem favourable with greater success. I do not know.

The option to create a video file first make sense to me.
I can use the file to view the movie using WMP or similar.
Then burn if I am satisfied.

The time taken and memory used is the same for both approaches.
Although one is performed in two stages.

Many people are having problems when burning from the VSP.
The problems may be their pc, or Ulead software, who knows?

Most report success when using the old tried and tested method
