Convert Quicktime to AVI jerky

Post by Downstairs Video »

I am trying to convert some quicktime movies to .avi format.
I have tried several different methods but the final result is jerky to watch.

I suspect the .mov file is NTSC and I am converting them to PAL.

I am usimg MSP8, have used the convert/video file in the File tab.
Used every CODEC with varying results.
Have also used 'Total Video Converter' as well.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

What frame rate is the original QT? If not NTSC 29.970 or 30 fps then conversions can be dicey.

Suggest you find out the properties of the mov file. (Mov is a wrapper and can contain many types of compression, in a similar way to avi files.) You then convert it with, say, http://www.videohelp.com/mov2avi.htm, with the output data closely matching the input data, import it into your timeline with exactly the same attributes as it was converted with in the project settings. Do any editing. Then Create the PAL AVI file, using the same codec again.
