DVD Workshop is cutting the picture

Post by Oinking »

Hi, i'm relatively new to creating DVD's, but i have used a few different programs to date to make DVD's. But each one of the programs always seem to cut of a certain part of the picture. It is usually the top and bottom. I've tried changing the settings on the DVD player, but still there is no solution to it.

When i used DVD Workshop, it cut out the sides to, and i end up with a smaller area on screen. Other programs that i have used, usually end up similar. Is there any program that can fix this, or is there a way of changing the settings in DVD workshop. I'm in Australia, so i use Pal settings, is that the problem. Please Help.

Id it's just a little that's normal. It's called overscan. A normal TV doesn't display the entire video. You lose about 5%. If you go to the menu section you'll see it's outlined.

Is there any way of fixing it, cause i'm burning anime onto DVD and it's cutting out the subtitles. The subtitles are on the movie already, so is there any way to put maybe a box around the picture to fix the problem?

I don't edit with DVD Workshop but I don't think you can, it's editing abilities are limited. You can however use an editor to do that.

Download the trial version of MSP or VS8. I know you can do it with MSP. Pretty sure VS8 should handle something like that too.

As thecoalman said it is overscan. TV overscan issues depend on the size of TV. A 13" TV will noticeably suffer less than a 40". 10% is defined as the safe area. Somes TV's require more than that. To keep the full picture for most TV's 25" or greater, in Ulead products Video Studio or Media Studio Pro just add Cropping 2D filter and set Height and Width at 90 with Fill Color Black and Stationary box checked. Also make sure to set your keys for beginning and end with the same values. This will create a black border around your footage. When played on your TV this will not be seen and only the full footage will be displayed.
