Creating templates in VHS 10

Post by petrea »

A general question - most of my projects include lots of photos (I do family history, reuinons, milestone b-days, etc)
ULead provides templates for slide shows - can I design a custom template like those - including varying transitions, pan&zoom etc. ?
Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete

I do not think it is possible to create your own templates, which is a shame.

Even the ability to select your transitions would be an advantage. Instead of the options we have, random, any one or none.

When using the overlay track, after setting the direction and style, use copy attributes to paste to the rest of the images.
A bit limited as you have only the direction and style to work with.

On the good side creating a slide show is not a long process.

All the Best

Thanks - I kind of thought that was the case. But sometimes I miss the obvious!

eYup ;)

Uleads PhotoImpact 11 can create/modify DVD templates. They are multi-layered *.ufo images (PI's native image format) with each layer having function-specific text in their Properties/Name fields. PI-11 also has dozens of backgrounds, buttons etc. so you can roll your own for either 4:3 or 16:9.

There is a tutorial on this here;

Terry -- I think Petrea is not after a particular template for a menu, but a general *project* 'template' for producing an entire slideshow(s) from start to end i.e. for a slideshow on reunions, use such-and-such properties, and this and that transitions between pictures, pan and zoom on photos 1, 5, 7 etc, and render to X format, then in the burning module, use Y template and burn with Z properties. So the actual menu template would only be a (small) part of the overall scheme of things which Petrea is calling more generally a 'template'. Anyway, that is my understanding of the request...

Oh THOSE templates. 8 year old induced ADD on my part, I guess :roll:

Haven't tried this myself yet, but it may be possible to roll your own here too. Something to do tonight ;)

The slideshow templates are located in c:\....\<Ulead Product Name>\Editing Style\Style\SShow\

The *.ini's point some of each templates resources; name it etc.;

[DVDMenu4_3]
DVDMenuPath=Template\4_3\Holiday\Holi01.ufo (PhotoImpact image file)
BKVideoPath=
BKImagePath=
BKMusicPath=EditingStyle\Audio\Celebration-Music.mpa (mpeg audio)

[DVDMenu16_9]
DVDMenuPath=Template\16_9\Holiday\Holi01_W.ufo
BKVideoPath=
BKImagePath=
BKMusicPath=EditingStyle\Audio\Celebration-Music.mpa

[English]
StyleName=Celebration
TooltipText=Celebration

[Japanese]
StyleName=Celebration
TooltipText=Celebration

[UVSAUTOSTYLENAME]
English="Celebration"

while the *.bmp is the thumbnail.

The templates sources are in the c:\....\<Ulead Product Name>\Editing Style\ folder, sorted by type; avi & swf in Video, pictures in Images etc.

In the \Style\NTSC and \Style\PAL folders are the templates themselves: the *.wvs files. The trick is that in reality they're just renamed VideoStudio *.vsp project files :)

So....basically you should be able to rename a slideshow template with a *.vsp extension, load it into VideoStudio to examine how it's built then roll your own....not forgetting to rename it with a *wvs extension after saving it. Mod the *.ini, make a thumbnail and put the sources where they belong and....

My examination shows them to be very simple projects, mainly consisting of an *.avi at the beginning and end with a color clip here and there and an overlay or two, mostly titles, *.jpg, *.tif, *.bmp or *.swf (Shockwave) files with some music for good measure.

I would leave the Wizard style templates well alone. They also include "wvs" files which is some form of computer language along the lines of Pascal, Visual Basic, C++ etc and are located
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10\EditingStyle\Style\General\PAL
and
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10\EditingStyle\Style\General\NTSC

To create your own standard templates you need photoimpact and then follow Tutorial: PI 11 creating DVD Menu from scratch

Or you can use the various standard templates from other Ulead products as shown Here. MF5/ VS9 /VS10: Share Menus, Transitions between products

Don't think so. I'll find out later tonight when I try to create a new template.

Here's what Celebration.wvs looks like when you rename it to Celebration.vsp and load it into VideoStudio;

Image

After examining it closely it looks to be a dead standard VideoStudio project file renamed with a new extension.

"templates"

Post by petrea »

Ken - you are right - I am not looking at menus - just some short cuts to start "generic" projects. Am particularly interested in memorials - have been reading lots about marketing service to funeral homes - The articles I have read indicate the use of a standard format to ensure rapid turn-times. Although modifications would be necessary based upon the input a good "template" would be very helpful.
Will be interested in the experiment.
thanks
Pete
