Did you do the steps in my initial reply to your question? Are you saying you could not change the capture plugin :?:

Well, you do need to place the DVD in the DVD drive on your computer first. I'm assuming the DVD has been closed and is not copy or region protected.

You then start the Video Capture module and you change your capture plug-in to "Import DVD Plug-in". The rest should be obvious; if not, read p 210 ff of the user manual.

DVD Capture

Post by Redester »

Suddenly, and for an uknown reason, I was able to set the Capture plug-in to DVD/MPEG and CDROM source!

I "watched" 50 minutes of my first DVD. I say Watched as I haven't a clue to where it went? Certainly not to the file I had selected on the secondary drive! I accepted the name as CAPTURE expecting an automatic extent such as 001, 002, etc.

Windows Search functions shows hundreds of "Capture" files. None of which are the one I thought I had "Captured." That effort seems to have "Imported" through the front door an "Exported" through the back. No JOY!

So, back to the books. :?

I don't need a $2000.00 machine to just view my mini-DVDs!

Did you actually put a checkmark in the title or chapter you wanted to import (in the tree structure on the left side), then hit the IMPORT button :?:

When I have the Capture screen present... I go to START, my computer, select the dvd and see a title. Click the title the "Tree" appears in another window. Click on all,, The dvd plays. Back to the Capture window.... blank... click on record... another window opens to show video playback... ???
This, apparently is not good as nothing is saved.

Now another damn stumbling block appears and I can't do that AGAIN. AND.... some SOB thing is blocking access to the internet. If it were not for LINUX this damn thing would be as useless as tits on a Bullfrog!

Thank you for your help. If I can ever resolve the current condition of WINcrap I may return.

Sign me digusted!

Just in case you return please allow me a small guess exercise:

Aren't the "crowd of small files" you get parts of the "movie" you want to "capture"?
Check if you asked MSP to separate by scene?
If so, you will get a small video clip for each time you touched the start recording button of your camera.

P.S. -Excuse me if by any chance this is a kind of duplicate, but first attempt to post didn't show any results.

Hi Antonio,

I'm back after beating WinXP into submission...again!

Thanks for the suggestion. It would be hard to tell if I had made that selection.

While mousin' around there are many pitfalls that one can un-intentionally fall into. I will search for that function to see if it is set.

DVD Capture

Post by Redester »

Hooray!!

DVD capture from a DVDROM works fine. IF..when.. the combination can be found. I have struggled in doing so for WEEKS ! I captured a 53 minute DVD in less than 10 minutes. This and most other things are NOT intuitive in MSP8.

So, it's now upward and onward to learning the Timeline for titling, trimming, inserting and other things to further confuse me! 'Hope I can get something "in the can" this year!

:)

I'm Baaaak

Like a moth to the flame (No Pun ), I'm back from other pursuits and must whup this MSP8 Pro that so far has had me pinned to the mat!

1. When loading, I get a "A registry error". I falls through and loads the program. I have and apply Registry Cleaner Pro (full version) which does nothing to correct this. It doesn't appear to do harm.... ????

2. When capturing I use:
Capture Device = Import DVD Plug-in
Format = MPEG

The resulting file from the DVD player is saved in the Media Library as :Capture***~0.mpg.

However...... When attempting to bring to the Timeline I get a complaint(?). And Properties tells me "File format is not supported."

Still pinned to the mat!

So where do I go from here folks? Do I need another codec?
