My FW version is 1.11. So, I'll try the update, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't help.snoops wrote:Well you guys got the same recorder, but not the same drive in the pc.
PX-708A seems to support writing DVD+VR, not DVD-VR (maybe reading too).
Has the firmware of the Plextor PX-708A ever been updated? Latest is 1.12 from June 9, 2006. Maybe it will help. Maybe not.
Your suggestion about the PC drive is a good suggestion but for the fact that when I use DMF 3 with the 'e' patch, I CAN import DVD-VR disks just fine. So Ulead changed something on me so now it doesn't work.... When I tried go to the DL patch, things broke and have never worked since.
I just last week called Ulead, got a tech and he sent me a file: LXDVDParser.dll. But I found no difference with this file. I replied so, but I've heard nothing since. (Surprise....)
I'll also try a different brand disk, but don't hold out hope it will work.
BTW, I just bought some DVD+RW disks and the recorder doesn't support the DVD+RW VR mode. Maybe I'll try the normal Video mode and see if I can make that work for my needs. I'm getting tired of fighting this.

You know, Dreamworks, I'm pretty sure we all know that DMF and Ulead aren't reliable and the product doesn't work much of the time, and yea, they are lousy in the customer service and support, but we don't need that kind of ranting and raving.
We're all just trying to beat it into submission the best we can.

Now I'm really stumped. Althought it doesn't seem to be required, did you 'Finalize' the disk? What mode did you use? I'm using LP (180 min).maddrummer3301 wrote:SciFiFan,
I have tried "Unsucessfully" to duplicate your problem importing a dvd-rw disk recorded in the -VR mode on a Sony RDR-GX7.
There are no firmware updates for the RDR-GX7 dvd recorder on the sony support webpage.
I tried 3 different make dvd-rw's (found the Memorex ones and they also worked).
.
I can't think of any other setting to play with, although there are a TON of settings in DMF and the *.ini file to play with. Have you made any modes to these settings?

Hmmm, That's an interesting point about the UDF1.02. I'm not aware of anyway to know or upgrade the firmware in the DVD Recorder. I don't have any control over how the disk is formatted.htchien wrote:I just wonder why it's UDF1.02, not UDF 2.0. For normal VR disk, the UDF Format Type should be V2.0.
Have you checked the firmware of your DVD recorder?
Ulead Data-Add is a not only a packet writing driver but also a UDF 1.02/1.5/2.0/2.01/2.5/2.6 driver (2.5/2.6 is only supported in DVDMF5 version). Through Data-Add Ulead products can read VR disk and HD/BD DVDs (BD uses UDF 2.5 and HD DVD uses UDF 2.6).
Since MD and SciFiFan have the same recorder and MD can do the VR import successfully, maybe you guys can check the firmware versions on your recorders to see if there is any difference?
Regards,
H.T.
Knowing this, is there something else I can check into?
Oh, maddrummer, what is the serial number of your unit? I'm curious if yours is newer or older Mine is about 2 1/2 years old. Bought in Jan of '04.
John,
You said you already tried installing the MF5 trial in addition to MF4 (which updates the common files), and that this didn't help.
In this case (MF3 + patch works), you actually might have success by replacing not only the file from support, but the other MF4 files in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD" with the working MF3 ones. This could cause other problems if not all DLLs that depend on each other are replaced, and its no fun either. Just a last resort idea.
Sorry, but after all these posts I overlooked your statement, which was in the first post.I was able to import DVD-VRs using DMF 3 with patches.

Maddrummer, Great minds think alike....
Last night, before I saw your post, it occurred to me also to try and copy the DVD_RTAV folder. And voila! it WORKED. I happen to have a DVD that MF 3 was having difficulty with. I could even import the DVD titles into MF 5 with no problems!! (the TBYB version). For some reason, I thought I'd need a tool like DVDDecrypter to extract the folder and it doesn't handle -VR mode disks.
So, that tells me to go back to your earlier suggestions and take a harder look at the DVDs I'm using. It's also possible my DVD drive IS having some kind of problem with them, as was suggested also, since that seems to be the only non-common element in our setups. And you are not having the problems I'm having.
I've checked and I'm pretty sure I don't have any DLA, or packet-writer running. I even disable the install of Data-Add when I had DMF 4 installed.
Might be tied into my problem with not being able to reuse the disks in my DVD Recorder if I've created a DVD on them on my PC.
So, given all this, I'll try different disks and alter my workflow to copy the DVD folder to my PC before importing.
Thanks everyone for all the time, and good suggestions. This has been the best help I've gotten on this.

I was having problems with using a -RW disc recorded in VR mode and trying to convert it to DVD-Video format in MF4.
Everytime it would freeze my PC at 98%.
The solution for me was to take the -RW disc and use DVD Decrypter to take an image ot it. Make sure that under "mode" you have selected "IFO, Read"
Then go back to MF and use Burn Image to Disc.
This gives to a copy of your DVD on a -R disc but still in VR-Mode.
Then take this disc and use the DVD+/- DVD Video option.
Say yes when it asks if you want to convert to DVD-Video.

My version of DVD Decrypter doesn't recognize -VR disks.
And.. Ummm, Doesn't writing to a -R disk defeat the whole purpose of -RW, ie rewriteable disks. You use a new -R disk every time you want to import.
Am I missing something? *grin*
Anyway for me just doing a windows copy of the DVD_RTAV folder from the disk seems to cure all evils.
Also, one of the reasons I was trying to stick with -VR was the resulting mpeg clip was one file where's with a Video disk, an hour show at EP mode would split into two MPEGs. But I found that VideoRedo does a great job of combining the two back into one. So, problem solved.

That's the conclusion I've come to as well.Dreamworks wrote:cant you yust shut the f uck up???????![]()
this is all *!*!* cant you peoples accept it that dvd moviefactory SUCKSSS ,the problem is not your firmware, or your dvd recorder or something else ,the problem is the s**** ulead products.. yust accept it you idiot ,everyone has always the same f ucking problems with ulead it crashes all the time , it doesnt save my projects correctly , it doesnt support Divx Xvid or wmv
Ulead is an unstable product with poor customer support.
I'm now examining alternative products.
