Can't get it started

Hi I am new to this forum and to media studio pro, I don't know if yoiu can help or not but here goes.

I recently acquired a copy of Media Studio pro7 full version with a PC magazine and upon installing it I cannot get the program to open, I get error message "Video Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" the error signature "AppName: veditor.exe AppVer: 7.0.0.0 ModName: ffdshow.ax
ModVer: 1.0.2.4 Offset: 0001a1d8"

Can any one make any sense of all of this?

The ffdshow.ax file is a maverick codec that causes problems in many video applications, including Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Player. It is often supplied in free codec bundles and there are many dated versions.

My advice would be to disable this codec and use the 'official' XVid or DivX codec.

Are you sure it is the full MSP version? Here in the UK it was the MSP 7 VE Edition (which is a cut down version) that was supplied on a PC magazine cover. Check your version number in Help->About for a definitive answer.

If you have a cut down version you might not be able to apply the latest service packs, e.g. SP2 or SP3. I found SP1 worked fine on my old MSP 7 VE DVD cut down version. Installing SP2 or SP3 ruined my setup and I had to reinstall.
