Version 1 - No audio AFTER burning to DVD

Post by Skotzmun »

Hi... have downloaded Ver-1 to evaluate, and have encountered a rather annoying problem that I can't figure out.

I have created an MPEG2 file that has audio on it with another application.

In DVDWS, I can see the pictures, and hear the audio - quite happily. The virtual DVD "works" right up to the DVDWS internal "player" stage.

However, when I burn the DVD (as a PAL thingy) the resulting disc has no audio on it at all.

This has happened with a couple of MPEG2 files that I have generated. However, if I make a disc with captured DV from a camcorder, there is sound - no problem.

It's obviously something in the settings of the sound of the MPEG2 that I need to resolve, but I don't know where tostart.

Any help greatly appreciated.

DVD WorkShop?

Post by GeorgeW »

Is that DVD Workshop 1.x, or DVD Workshop 2.x? Where is that "Ver-1" showing?

What are your project properties?

And where did the MPEG2 files come from? What was used to create them, and what are their attributes when you right-click on them in DVD Workshop and show properties?

Sorry - Workshop 1.0 ("Version 1" was my interpretation)

settings - (very compressed!) screengrabs follow:

The files with problems were created using Xequte's DVD PixPlay - a programme that enables the creation of MPEG files from a stream of JPEG pictures... like I say - the resultant file has audio quite happily before ULead does its recompression on it.

SELF-UPDATE:

I have just done a quick investigation and may have found the reason, but can't confirm it... could anyone help?

The Xequte software was set to create MPEGs with AC3 audio as standard. I changed this to MPEG2 audio, and rendered another movie.

I then created a "DVD Directory", and noticed that it puts its own copies of the video files in there (as ~filename.mpeg)... the AC3-sourced one was silent, and the MPEG-sourced one had audio.

Therefore, is DVD Workshop 1.0 capable of handling MPEGs with AC3 audio, is there something I need to checkbox, or do I need to make sure everything is made with MPEG2 audio as standard?

Thanks in advance - Skotzmun

You will need to upgrade to DVD WorkShop 2 for it I think....

Thanks for the quick response!

Now that I know what I'm looking for, I've also found another post on the board that says AC3 is not enabled in the trial versions as Dolby want a fee (yes... that's right... the same Dolby who have just floated on the Stock Market... poor old Uncle Ray obviously needs the money  )

Therefore that'll be the reason... I'll stick with MPEG audio for my evaluations then!
