Strange Audio Problem

Post by MystikTK »

I burned a VCD today (I'm in the midst of upgrading my DVD burner) and the finished product had a very serious audio glitch on two of the three files on the disc.

These two files are both XviD AVI files with MPEG-2 audio. I'm wondering if it could possibly be a problem with XviD interacting poorly with MP2? What audio settings should I be using with XviD?

Does anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Xvid and DivX cause more trouble than any other formats. Try using a 3rd party program to convert the files to MPEG-2 (MPEG-1 if you are making a VCD) before importing them into any Ulead programs.

Or, if you are going to be editing the files the AVI/DV format is best. (There are a million AVI formats... make sure it's DV!)

I've had good luck with a universal format-conversion program called SUPER (FREE!!!), but I was using it for a different purpose... I've never messed around with Xvid or DviX files.

Thanks, I had a feeling it was the MPEG-4 compression.

I use both SUPER and MediaCoder, but I prefer MediaCoder since it gives me extra task info (i.e. time remaining, est. file size etc.). Is there any real difference in output quality with MC as opposed to SUPER?

Also, if I do use SUPER, what encoder should I use: ffmpeg or mencoder?

Thanks.
