Video Studio 10 Capture Problem

Post by kipper »

Wondering if anyone may help.
After installing a DVD movie disc into my disc drive I then select the capture screen.
For some reason I cannot select the DVD icon to load the movie into the library.
Any help appreciated

That is because you already have digital files on the disc. In effect, you don't capture from a DVD, you use 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR'. In the dialogue box which appears, point the program at the in which you have placed the DVD. The program will take a few seconds to 'parse' (ie analyse) the disc. Then select 'Import' rather than 'Import DVD Structure'. A disc structure tree will then appear with the DVD divided into various parts (called Titles and Chapters). You can preview these using the player built into that dialogue box. When you know which parts you want, you put a check mark in the little white boxes to the immediate left of each part of the DVD. Then select Import.

Thanks Ken for the reply.
I understand what you are saying but the problem is that the "Insert DVD/DVD- VR is not able to be selected, It is not highlighted for me to select.

When you say 'movie DVD' do you mean a commercial one, or is it a mini DVD from a digital video camera? If the former, then you will probably be barred from importing from it as it will be copyright protected...

Ken it is a mini DVD from a hitachi camcorder, I have no problems with my desktop and the software works fine, I have loaded the software into my laptop and for some reason I cannot open the section for reading the disk

It sounds like your DVD drive isn't seeing the disc, could it be a bad DVD disc, or are you testing with one that worked ok on your desktop?

Joe when I am using my desktop and open the program, In the capture section I am able to select "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" and everything is OK but on my laptop in the capture section the "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" is not highlighted so I cannot select it to commence importing video.
I know it is not the disk, there must be some file that the program requires that the laptop does not have installed for this part to work

I have a feeling it's your DVD drive, but if you click on “File” then “Preferences” are your laptop settings the same as your desktop?

Yes settings are the same, When you open the capture section should the "Insert DVD/DVD-VR be highlighted? or does this only become highlighted when you install a DVD disk?
If this is the case maybe the program is not reconizing the dvd drive

Hang on a sec and I'll check -

No it never becomes highlighted, you just click on it - but put the DVD in first anyway.

Joe in a word it has to be able to be clicked, I cannot even click on it as it is not in a word highlighted
The other 3 options Mobile device, hd capture etc I can select but not the DVD icon

Have you tried (recently) putting a commercial store bought DVD movie in your laptop to make sure the DVD drive is working ok?

YES the drive plays DVD's ok, still think it is a problem within the software, Maybe have to re download and see if that fixes the problem

I'd uninstall first.
