Have background audio but no video audio after burning.

Post by ShoreServiceDogs »

Using MF 5 (trial). Have 3 video clips (with sound) I've exported out from Avid Xpress (video editing prog). Clips were exported as Quick Time movies (Avid kept throwing error messages when trying to export to AVI).

Clips import perfectly fine in MF 5. When previewing, the audio works beautifully. When project is burned tho, only sound on DVD is the background music at the main menu. Each video clip only shows video, no sound. After making 2 DVDs into frisbees, started just burning to PC for previewing. Same result.

Exported out just the audio portion of the clips from Avid as mp3s to add to the video thru the MF audio settings. Same deal. No video sound when burned, just background music at main menu. Did numeous adjustments in how audio was supposed to be handled at burn. Didn't make any difference. Only audio exported out was the background music.

Read thru the boards and there was mention of making sure that all the audio is in one place. The clip audios were in a different directory than the background music so transfered video clip audios to there and then we had a nasty storm and lost power, so I took that as a sign and finally went to get some sleep. Going to be burning that one to PC in a little bit.

Before I do tho, any suggestions of other things that might help. I have a feeling it's some little setting I'm not catching somewhere deep in a preference or burn setup and since I am a total newbie to DVD authoring, I haven't a clue what settings or audio rates/types should be used.

Please help before I lose what little sanity I still have. Many thanks in advance!

Editing on Avid, I'm surprised you have any sanity left at all! (sorry - couldn't resist :) )

I have no concrete suggestions on the audio thing. I'm just getting into MF4 myself.

I would suggest that you not use mp3 and instead use wav files at 48K as your source, just in case the mp3 and the bitrate is problematic for some reason.

That was the ticket. If all files are mp3s in the Audio directory of the Ulead folder in the Program directory (my pathway is ... C drive -> Programs Files -> Ulead Systems -> Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 -> Content -> Audio) then it works beautifully (at least when burning to the PC... next test will be to a DVD).

Thanks muchly Plasma_Video for the WAV suggestion! :D Will keep that in mind should any other audios give me problems since from reading the boards I see mp3s apparently can be an issue in MF.
