DVD quality - settings or codec

Post by Roba1 »

Hallo!

I made DVD with menu, but I am not satisfied with quality. It is not exactly quality in question but when I move the camera from one cadre to another (I do that slowly) the picture is jumping it is not going continious. If I look at original file (DV capturing full quality) in is O.K.

Where did I go wrong - how to solve that?
Are there any settings for that or I use wrong codec to convert AVI to DVD file or maybe my computor is too slow 2GB amd ATHLON procesor and 1GB RAM?

Please help me!

What is the total duration of your video, and what are your render settings for DVD mpeg :?:

Bitrate, resolution, frame rate, field order, CBR or VBR, etc...

How did you capture your original dv video to your computer, and can you list the dv properties?

George

GeorgeW!

My file si 1:56:00 long, but i try to do just 1 minute and it was the same.
I render t AVI file to full quality one part with pinnacle card the other through USB the third with firewire and all is the same.

My settings were:
Bitrate :5200 - is it OK. if I round up to one hundert (ec. 5100, 5200,4900,...)
Resolution : 720 x 576
Frame rate: 25fps
Field order: Frame_Based
Bit rate: CBR

I try to change frame rate to - Lower Field First
Here are my settings

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 5000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

It is still not OK. althought I change frame rate to - Lower Field First.

Best regards!

It probably sounds daft but your do live in a PAL country and not NTSC don't you?

PAL = 25 fps
NTSC = 29.97 fps

You should also use CBR rather than VBR. VBR should be considered as a means to squeeze a bit more onto a DVD when you are having problems getting it to fit.

I made test that I first make MPG file and then convert it to DVD and with this two step procedure it is OK.

I do that with the same setings and the same project and I find out that problem vas made at converting MPG to VOB format.

I Am setisfied with that kind of solution (two step procedure) But I stiil would like to know where the problem lie.

Here are information of my AVI file:
File format : Microsoft avi files -- OpenDML
Frame rate : 25
Data rate: 1698,66 kbps
filesize: 10.306.727kB

comp.: DV Video Encoder -- type 2
Atrib: 24 bits , 720x576, 4.3

Audio:
PCM
48KHz; 16bit; stereo

I capture file with Pinnacle studio 9.4. I take standard settings for DVD quality. In past I use pinnacle studio, but I had many problems with this program.

But I have another file which was captured with Ulead Videostudio 10+ and bitrate is 1.658kbps. I don't know how to capture 3698kbps?

I might also mention that trying to capture DV format using Type 2 Encoder will often produce problems (dropped frames, erratic audio) if your computer is not particularly powerful. We usually recommend that you capture DV using Type 1 Encoder.
