Video being captured is very glitchy, warpy, and audio too

Post by Axiom »

im capturing from a samsung duo cam, using my mini-dv tape.. how do i capture video and have it be a nice streaming video not a really jumpy and glitchy one.. also, the audio is horrible, and like someone is talking then 3 seconds later the audio plays for.. the audio is delayed.. it frames really bad too.

basically on the camera and TV its crystal clear.. how do i get it to look like that on my computer?

How have you got the camera connected to your computer? As the video part of the camera is mini DV, it should be connected via Firewire in order to get the best quality captures in DV format. If you are connecting it via USB or by some other means, it will be poor quality.

1. you give absolutely no info about your system; operating system, hard drives, processor, ram etc. etc. This should be entered into your forum profile so responders have some kind of jumping off point.

2. Read this tutorial; http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13421

3. if you're capturing with USB, don't. IEEE-1394, aka iLink or Firewire, works much better.

It certainly is good enough. Apart from my current main computer, I have an old Dell Inspiron 8000 running a 1GHz chip. It came with firewire, and captures just fine.

Fortunately, Firewire cards are quite cheap these days. Some even come with extra USB ports too. When buying one, make sure you get a cable with the right plugs at the end. Normally these are a small 4 pin plug at the camera end and the larger 6 pin plug at the card/computer end.

That should be fine.

BTW- Your video card is only used to display the video. If you are doing any editing, all of the image processing is done by your CPU.

Agreed. I've edited DV on lighter systems than that :D

IMO swiching to IEEE-1394 should help things considerably.

i appreciate your help guys, im goin to the store in a bit to buy some firewire stuff. ill let u know how it turns out, what do u say?

also, my camera is a DVI for my firewire cable. is that still the 4 pin plug u speak of?

oh yeah one more thing i forgot... my question was never answered about my Audio being messed up. do you think the firewire will fix that too?

If the USB is causing you to drop frames this will cause audio synch problems.

Axiom -- I don't know your camera, but am assuming that like all mini DV cameras of which I am aware, its Firewire plug will be small, around the same size as the USB plug. If so, it will be the small 4-pin one.

And I certainly endorse Terry's comments about audio.
