Capturing video from Games Consoles

Post by Bagshot »

Hello, I'm having some problems at the moment when I try to capture video from my games consoles. When I capture in VS9 from my Xbox using a Pal60 signal - everything's fine. However, lately I've been trying to capture from my PS2 using a pure PAL signal, and I've been having a few quality issues.

The problem is the captured video turns out to be a little jerky, very slight, but still noticeable. What makes it more annoying is that it seems to happen randomly. Sometimes the video is smooth as silk and I just can't work out why. There is a slight motion blur to the movement as well.

These are my settings:

Video Standard = PAL_D
Frames per Second = 30

Also, what is the difference between PAL B, D, M, N and which one should I use?

If I capture in Movie maker using the same settings, then I don't seem to get the problem, but the video picture is a little dark. If I could somehow combine the smoothness of MM and the picture quality of VS9, then I'd be a very happy man.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

The first obvious flaw is that you have the frames per second wrong.
PAL = 25.

Regarding the various flavours of PAL please view:

Oh, I see. Man, am I dumb. I thought you could just choose the FPS you wanted, so I naturally chose the most.

I've just tested it 3 times using 25fps and it was fine. Thankyou very much for your quick reply and next time I will bring my brain.

Hello again, yes it's me and I have another problem I hope you can help me with.

I capture video from my consoles through composite leads but recently just changed to S-video. I must say the quality has improved dramatically and it seems I can now play and capture without any lag - excellent! Only problem is, when I switch over to my PAL60 signal, the colours all muck up and make the picture look horrible. I can capture PAL60 fine through my composite leads, but I get this problem the moment I switch over to S-Video.

I looked on Wikipedia and it was very informative but unfortunately can't offer me any solutions. Is it possible to capture PAL60 through S-Video, or am I just going to have to use my composite leads?

Also (one more, I swear :P ), is there an official way to get VS9 to capture PAL60? At the moment I have to force it by using another program's drivers.

Thanks in advance.
