Burning to DVD prob

Well you guys have helped me get this far, please may I ask for help again!

I have opened my DV PAL file in v6 and tried to Finish and burn to DVD, but after step 5 to 6, it says that my DVD is maybe not blank or rewritable. It is a new Philips DVD+RW 4x. My pc is 16xDVD writer Dual Format (+/-) & Dual layer. Obviously I don't much know what I'm talking about at this stage and am copying info. Anyway, can anyone enlighten me why ULead abandoned such an exciting mission? It did say at the beginning that the cd may not have enough space, but ignored it because it's a DVD and I've only got 71mins of film to burn. I feel I must be doing something 'staring me in the face' wrong. Please help.
