Can I Erase this DVD?! I can't tell.
I have a DVD (that has already been written on) that says "Memorex DVD+R" but on the other side (as in the DVD+R is on the right, and this is on the left) it reads "4x RW" ...I'm confused. I tried to put it into ulead vs but the erase button was grayed out, and on xp i wasn't given the option to "erase dvd" like you can with CDs. Is this truly an RW? or is it just some kind of logo? By the way, I lost the box for it...

If you have the Nero suite on your computer, use the InfoTool which gives you information on all your drives and any disc which happens to be in one of them. That will certainly quickly tell you whether this particular disc is RW or not. IIRC, +RW discs need to be formatted (at least on first use) but again AFAIK the various programs you are trying to use the disc with would automatically tell you this (as well as automatically suggesting it should be erased if this is possible).

Hi
Try this free program, works for DVD only.
Gives info about disc and manufacturer.

If the erase button is greyed out then the disc is most likely DVD – R
