Post by Johnny17 »

Hi, I'm new here. :D

I have problem with Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus (trial version). I installed it 6 days ago and it worked fine, but after 3 or 4 days I started to get error. At program startup I get this error :

Ulead VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I click on Send error report but nothing happens so I can't start program. I tried to re-install it, no help. I also tried to install it on other disc, also there's no help. Can somone please help me about this, why I keep getting this error?? :?

Hi Johnny, and welcome to the wonderful world of video editing and the forums..:)

The first thing that comes to mind, is WinXP's good ol' DEP (Date Execution Prevention). This is about the most Worthless piece of... well get my drift.... I've had more problems recently with it then I want..

So what you need to do is Disable DEP for VS. To do so do the following:

1. Right-click on My Computer and Select Properties
2. In the System Properties dialogue that opens click on the Advance Tab.
3. Click on the Settings button for Performance.
4. In the Performance Options, click on the 3rd tab, Data Execution Prevention.
5. Click the radio button for Turn on DEP for all.....
6. Click on the Add button, a window will open that you can navigate to where the executable file for VS is located. Generally this is found under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Video Studio 10.0. However you may have it installed to some other location on your system.
7. Once you have found it, there should be a file similar to vstudio10.exe. Click on it to add it to the execeptions list.

Now if DEP was preventing VS from launching that should take care of it.

Hey, maybe my problem is related with registry. I use CCleaner for fixing registry problems and here is the list of problems which I can't fix with CCleaner, maybe some of them is reason why VideoStudio crashes :

I'm worried about this ActiveX/COM issues, maybe they are reason why Ulead crashes. :?:

One word: multiboot

ALL of my multiple use systems share one thing: the editing is done on a separate OS installation on another partition of the main drive.

This install has just the drivers, video software and known-to-be-stable tools & utilities installed and it's Ghost'ed (Nortons Ghost drive imager) for quick restoration. No IE plugins, no email, no junkware, especially no games....no nothing but OpenOffice2 (M$ Office has TSR's that can be a problem), multimedia/graphics/3D tools, IrfanView and the Total Commander file/FTP manager.

Before a new program/driver is installed a restore point is created and the partition Ghosted (not overwriting the 'base' Ghost!!) just in case.

New partitions can be created on existing boot drives using Partition Magic etc. then Windows installer to set up the second bootup. You opt for a new Windows install and point it at the new partition. The installer sets up the boot.ini (boot menu) & the rest.

A lesson learned the hard way. Absent the junk found on 'normal' PC's I see a tiny portion of the problems reported here on my own systems.
