saving animations from a web site

Post by girly »

When I try to save an animation from a web site it saves as a BMP file, I don't seem to have a choice. eg I tried to save the dragon from Viking Animation's tutorial but it only saves on my hard drive as a BMP. Is there a way round this please.

Thanks

That's a common bug with Internet Explorer... If you have Firefox or another browser, it will work fine.

If not, then in Internet Explorer, click "Tools, Internet Options."

In the Temporary Files section, click the "Delete Files" button. Click OK, then close IE. Reopen it and try again.

If that doesn't work, let us know. There is another option to try, but it's a much larger pain in the :!: to do.

Do you mean this picture?

If so right click the picture and select "Save Image as"
In the box "Save as type" select GIF.
To view it on your machine right click the picture and in the list that pops up select "Preview."

Nope, this one... Image

Either way, IE screws up once in a while and the only format it wants to let you use is BMP. I've had that happen a few times myself.

Robert,
Both of your animations are brilliant. I use mozilla firefox and no problem saving it as an animated GIF.

Thank you Steve! The dragon by itself I didn't do, it's from http://www.animationlibrary.com/ - I just modified it by duplicating some frames for the purpose of the tutorial.

The best version of this is here:
http://vikingswebanimation.ca/samples/f ... on_swf.htm
There's animated water, a reflection of the dragon, and the dragon's shadow.

Opera, Firefox, Netscape will always behave in that regard. Internet Explorer has had that bug for years now, and they can't seem to fix it. Maybe IE 7 has corrected it, I have no idea...

Hi

I tried deleting files in Internet Explorer and tried saving the animation again. This time it saved as a GIF - brilliant.

Thanks again, I shall try the tutorial now.
