What are Uleads file extensions?

Post by The Old Timer »

Is there a list somewhere that I can download that will tell me just what file extensions the various Ulead products creates, what there function is & what if anything is the consequence of deleting these files? The reason that I ask is that I have been trying to consolidate all of my photos that are on various drives & partitions & I keep coming seeing file extensions that I am unaware of but in some cases I suspect come from either PI or PE8.5 or Cool 3D. These include .uas,.info,pe.inf,pe.cah etc.

As for that list of yours, most of them you shouldn't touch;

.uas = could be the Recital Universal Application Server (UAS) startup log
.info = Canon ZoomBrowser Image Index
.pe = Microsoft Symbol and Type Information
.inf = Windows Information or Setup File
.cah = dunno

Most file extensions can be looked up here, but every now and then you'll find one that stumps them;

Let's start with the Ulead basics;

UFO = PhotoImpacts native image format. Most all other Ulead programs will accept these and they form the basis for the menu's used by various Ulead DVD burning programs and modules. Yes, you can create your own DVD menu presets in PhotoImpact.

UOL = Ulead Object Library; the objects in the PI Easy Palette/Libraries.

SMP = PI Easy Palette/Galleries.

DVP = MediaStudio Pro's project file

VSP = VideoStudio project file

3DS = Cool3D project file

UIS = a proxy video file defining an image sequence; basically a 'video' made up of BMP's, JPeg's, TGA's etc. with sequential names like "file0000.jpg", "file0001.jpg". Most often used to import image sequence animations from 3D programs like Cool3D, 3D Studio MAX, Lightwave, Maya etc., but you can also export live video as a UIS so you can do single frame touch-ups in PI, Photoshop etc. When finished you just load the UIS to bring it back into MSPro, VideoStudio etc.

There are numerous files used to define their moving path, video & audio filter and other galleries, but they are in the installation folders. Unless you know what you're doing by way of a tutorial here, no touch.

Ulead also has an entry in Program Files/Common Files where the MPEG encoding and other DLL's are stored for common usage by their products. Best not to touch that either.
