PS4 freezes after using "Audio & Effects"

Post by tracy2868 »

Hi! Can someone please help! I need to complete a birthday video by tomorrow.

When I go to "Audio & Effects" and edit the transition, timing, etc, I make my changes then click "OK". It acts like it saves my changes and takes me back to my "Preview" then will either freeze or completely close the program (of course without having time to "save").

I contacted tech support and they told me to do a "Clean Install" then download a "patch". I did all of this, and I'm still having the same problem!

I need to have this birthday video done by 8/5/06 and I have a program that won't work! What can I do? Can someone please help me?

Welcome to the forum Tracy. Sorry, caught your posting too late to help with your deadline.

A few questions:

1) Do you see any error message when this occurs and if so, could you post the exact message?

2) Have you tried making a new project using different music and photos? Just curious to see if there might have been corrupt content causing your original project to crash.

3) When you performed the clean install were you able to find and delete all of the files and entries specified in the procedure?

Hello Mike:

Thanks for the reply. I'm still trying to get it to work, so I haven't gotten the video done yet.

The message that I get is "Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow 4 has encountered a problem and must shut down" I can then send a report to Microsoft or not.

No I haven't tried making a new file (I don't think so).

In the instructions for a clean install, under "regedit", under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrrentVersion\Uninstall, please delete {1F6199F9-9BED-4B43-9E5C-8495086EE714} folder if they are present, I don't think I found that folder.

Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\UleadSystems, please delete Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow 4 folder. I don't think I found it either.

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\UleadSystems\, please delete Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow 4 folder. I don't think I found this one either.

I think the rest of it went OK. After I reninstalled the program, I downloaded and installed DPS4_Comm_Patch.exe

I just tried to make my edits again in the "Audio & Effects" and I made one change, it didn't lock up so I got to save the file. I made 2 more changes, one at a time, saving the file after each, and it didn't lock up. The next time, I made a change, it locked up again with the same error. Why was I able to make a few changes before it starting locking up again?

One more question, where in the directory (not how, I know how to save the file) do I save my project file? Are you suppose to save it in the program folder, my documents or where? It doesn't specify in the user guide. the reason I'm asking is that in the user guide under "Audio & Effects" it shows (I think) the file location of the photo you're editing at the top of the page. Mine doesn't show the file location. The audio file location is displayed at the top. Just wondering if this might be the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Again, thanks for replying. :)

Odd that the clean install didn't fix it. I might suggest trying again (even though it's a pain) just to make sure you found and deleted all the applicable regsistry entries, files and folders. That said, there are sometimes a few entries mentioned in the procedure that aren't necessarily found in every installation. Also very important to run Windows "disc cleanup" on your installation drive AND to reboot before reinstalling.

I do think it would be worthwhile to throw together a quick test project using perhaps 25 or 30 DIFFERENT photos and music just to see if it can be successfully edited. Corrupt media has been known to crash the program.

I'm not sure why you were able to perform a limited number of changes before the program crashed. In the past, some have suggested that waiting a few seconds after each edit/change allows the action to 'set' properly, theoretically preventing an overload crash. I'm not sure what you've got as far as system specs but I personally have never had the need to do this.

It's definitely not caused by your project Save location. I usually save to my desktop and drag the project file to another folder later. It shouldn't make any difference.

Lemme know if you have any luck :-)

Hi Mike,

I did another clean installation, and it still doesn't work. They need to fix this or give us a refund. This is just ridiculous. Guess I'll look for another program that works.

Thanks for all your help.

No prob! There must be a system or program conflict of some kind. Very difficult to troubleshoot unfortunately. If need be I believe you can apply for a refund through their service provider, Element 5.

Good luck,
