How do you capture video and Audio at same time

Post by Veghead22 »

I have my video going into the computer via firewire. I have a sound board set up so I can get good quality audio (camera audio stinks) and that is going to my computer line in. How can I capture the video and the quality audio at the same time. I brand new to this software, so your advice is appreciated. Is Ulead a good audio editor? Thanks!

Hi

Your video and audio should use the save stream via firewire.
You should have no need to capture the audio separately.

If you do not want to use the cameras audio, capture the video file via firewire.
After capture in the edit mode mute the audio and add your own background sound.

The problem with muting the video file and importing the sound is having to take the time to sync the two up and then whatever is edited out in the video has to be edited out in the audio which could become very time consuming. I was really hoping there was a way to capture my video and audio simultaneously as I do not want to use the camera audio.

Hi

I am not sure I understand your problem!

If you do not want to use the camera audio. What audio sound are you intending to use?

You say (How can I capture the video and the quality audio at the same time.)

Where is the bad audio and where is the good quality audio.????????????

Are these two separate audio streams, or does the single stream sound better via your sound card.

The best quality capture for video and audio is via firewire selecting DV as the capture format.

I have a quality mic going into a quality sound board. I'm going from the monitor out on my sound board into my line in in my computer which produces a great sound. My camera is going into the firewire connection of that same computer. I have no desire to capture the sound from the video camera, just the video. The camera is the bad audio. The sound board into my line in is the good audio. So, I want the sound going into my line in captured with the video going into my firewire. Make sense?

For whatever reason it is that you want to replace the camcorder soundtrack with another - it will be a two step process.
Step 1 capture the audio & Video from the camcorder.
Step 2. Mute the audio and add your new audio to the video.

If you're having problems with the camcorder sound you need to ask yourself why and do something about it. Prevention is better than cure.

So I assume the short answer to my question is No, you can't capture your video and a separate sound source at the same time. I'm aware of the option everybody continues to recommend which isn't a good option for what I'm trying to accomplish.
