Locking a Video Clip to the timeline

Post by jimswinder »

Why is it when I delete a video clip, all the video clips to the right of it move to the left? Is there a way to lock a video clip to a certain point in the timeline so it will not move when clips are deleted or added?

If it's the main video track, no you can't have an empty space, what would the DVD play during that time?

You could however insert a black color clip of the same duration before the delete.

If it's an audio or overlay track then yes you can delete without moving the rest if you disable Ripple editing for that track or for the whole project (buttons left of the tracks in timeline view)

I have three video clips...I want to delete the middle one and insert multiple video clips in its place and at the same time I do not want the third clip to move from it's place on the time line as it is in sync with the audio track.

If your clips are in sync with your audio then the total length of the clips you insert have to be the same length as the one you remove.

Hi

If you what to retain the audio from the middle video you will have to split audio prior to replacing the clip.

Another option
You could use the overlay track to cover the offending video.

...so I guess what you are saying is there is no way to lock a video to the timeline but I would need to delete the unwanted video clip and then insert the necessary clips to total the time that was deleted.
