How can I clean up a digital "noise" on my video

Post by enneRV »

The video that I took has a horizontal "digital noise" (a line of square pixels) right on the center of the video. I suspect that it may have been caused by improperly inserting the tape and it did not align correctly with the tape head of the camera. After I took out the tape, rewinded and played it, there it was (I'm not sure if I'm identifying this correctly as a "digital noise"). If it was an analogue recording, I'm thinking I could fix it by adjusting the tracking.

Is there a way to clean this up? Is there a video filter to do this?

Thanks.

These are data drop out. Basically some of the data in the tape were not readable or not read properly.

My first suggestion is to try using a tape head cleaner first, or use your friend camcorder to see if the problem exists. It would be quite difficult to get rid of the artefact.

Hi in the absense of more expert opinion. If you haven't already done so I think you need to do some detective work to see if the problem is just on this particular tape or with the equiptment . If other tapes record and plaback ok then it's this tape and I don't think any filter will fix that. If the recording is precious a Profesional Lab may be able to do something with it at a cost.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm stuck with this bad tape.

Yes, I've tried cleaning the heads and yes, it is only this tape. I used the camera recently and all my recordings are okay. Playing old tapes are fine too.

Have a great day guys.
