I want to produce a DVD that will fill my 16:9 display.
I just purchased a JVC GR-D250U camcorder. It can shoot in "Sqeeze" mode, which looks anamorphic (tall and skinny in the viewfinder). When I transfer via firewire and edit, should I be setting the VS9 project at the title screen to 16:9 or 4:3?
Do I make aspect ratio selections at a different stage?
Thanks,
Marc
Squeeze Mode: Treat it as 4:3?

Hi Marc
When you capture the video what capture settings do you use.?
When you capture do you select DV as the ‘Format’?
If you select any other format, you have to set the capture properties.
From the timeline right click a video clip and select properties. What are they?
These should be the capture settings.
The project aspect ratio should be set from the start of editing.
Read 9:16 ‘ A look at widescreen ‘ from the link below

Thanks Trevor,
I was expecting the preview window to change shape when I switched between 4:3 and 16:9. The link was very useful in clearing that up.
I use DV during the capture process, so I belive I don't have to change anything else, right?
So setting the project as 16:9 will stretch out the anamorphic image to fill the 16:9 frame? In other words, the preview will not have tall skinny people. It will have black bars representing the unused portion of the preview screen.
I'll have to take another run at it when I get home.
Thanks again,
Marc

Hi Marc
Glad for the feedback, thanks.
I do not know if you have this option checked.
File – Preferences – Show messages when inserting first video clip…
When the first clip is inserted to the timeline you are given the option to change the project properties to match.
Selecting details shows the various settings.
(the clip has to be compatible with VS’s templates)
This option would have changed your settings and aspect ratio.
