I'm new to Video Studio. I'm using V9.
Last night I started a new project. This is the first time i've tried this.
I extracted a 1 hour DV from my Sony DCR-HC42E camcorder. I left it running and went to bed. This morning I checked the PC and saw that VS9 was not running.
I checked the VS9 folder under My Documents, and found lots of AVI's. Judging by the date/time stamps it took about an hour to extract a one hour DV tape. Most of them look fine, but a handful won't play in Windows Media Player. The files that won't play have no duration and no thumbnail when using Windows Explorer detailed view.
I restarted VS9 this morning and it asked if I wanted to recover the project I started last night, to which I said yes, but there is no .VSP anywhere on my PC to open.
I think maybe VS9 crashed and wasn't able to complete all the AVI's correctly.
Do I have to start again and scan my DV tape? What's to stop this happening again? I don't want to sit in front of the PC waiting for VS9 to crash.
I've used the DV to DVD Wizard successfully before attempting to use
the VS editor.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks.
VS9 created some AVI's that WMP won't play

Hi Mike
Suggestion, do not use the wizard to scan the tape.
Use the Editor-CaptureTab-Capture Video
Select DV as the format
The format should remain as Dv
Options Dv-Type 1
Do not use Split by Scene
Try the Split by Scene at some other time.
Capture about 15 minutes at a time
Capture is in real time, one hour takes one hour.
Avi’s are 13 gb per hour.
Once captured the Avi is placed in the timeline, you can use the Split Scene option here if you require.
The VSP is a project file containing links/pointers to your file on your hard drive and associated clips within the timelines.
It does sound as though the program crashed
