Random transitions in V9

Post by thad »

I have a few slide shows to create with ~150 pictures each. I want to use random tranitions, but I know there are some transitions that I don't like.

What's your opinion on this? If if move the transitions that I don't want used from the folder where they reside (C:\Program Files\Ulead.....), will that stop VS from using them? In other words, will the transitions that are in the folder be the only ones used? I'm not sure if the internal workings and I don't want to get errors "Can't find Blinds trasition." Does that make sense?

Thanks.

I moved all the files that were in the .vfx folder and most of the transitions disappeared. The headings are still there (3D, FX, Stretch, etc) but they're empty. The only problem is some transitions still show up when I click on their heading and they're the ones that I don't want. :D

Album, Mask 1-3, Flashback to name a few, are the transitions that I don't want used. I can't find where the data is stored for these transitions. Does anyone know? I think if I can move those files and put only the transitions that I want used back in the .vfx folder, I can get a random transition of the transitions of my selection. 8)

If this project wasn't so big, I'd just use random and then go through and change the transitions I don't want.

I'm open for any suggestions.

This may or may not work in conjunction with your test above.
You havent said which version of VideoStudio you have but you will be able to modify this easily for a different version.

With VideoStudio closed, rename the following folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0
to
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0x
(This way you can always change it back again)
Substitute your user name for Stephen

Now restart VideoStudio and it will recreate that folder. Doing this it might have removed those deleted transitions from your library manager.

V9, as the topic states.

Thanks for the reply, Steve. I did what you suggested and it didn't help with my problem. I think there might be a misunderstanding somewhere. I'll explain again.

Of all the transitions available to me, I really only use about 15 of them. Since I have a large project to do, I want to use Random transitions. The problem with this is VS will select some transitions that I don't like (anything in the Album, Flashback, Mask A, Mask B, or Mask C category.) I thought if I went into the .vfx folder (where the transitions are stored) in Windows Explorer and moved (or deleted) the transitions that I never use....I can then use Random transitions because the only ones left are the transitions that I like. Just as a test, I moved ALL the transitions out of the .vfx folder, just to see if it would work. If ALL the transitions disappeared when I launch VS, then my idea would be a success. I would get rid of all the transitions that I don't use and be left with only the transitions that I like. The problem is, even after I moved ALL the transitions from the .vfx folder, some (coincidently, the ones I'm trying to get rid of) are still available in VS. My question is, where is the .vfx file (or whatever controls them) for the Album, Flashback, Mask A, Mask B, or Mask C transitions? I need to find it and get rid of it.

Does that clear it up or did I misunderstand your reply? :)

Thanks for the help.

I just tried it and it only partly works in VideoStudio 9.

1. Removed all the Transitions from the vfx folder except the 'Burger' Transitions.
2. Renamed
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0
to
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0x
3. Renamed
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0
to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0x

Looked at the Transitions folders and it half worked. The folder names were still present and several were now empty - but not all. Tried to create a slideshow with about 50 pictures and "random transitions" set in preferences but VS9 just seemed to choose one transition until it got to about the 45th then it chose a few more.

Unless you want to go hunting through the 76 'ini' files contained within VideoStudio 9 and risk mucking up your system I would be tempted to play safe and manually alter the transitions you don't like.

Thanks for your help on this Steve. It looks like you've spent a little bit of time experimenting with this and I appreciate it.

I'm going to have to take your advice and go through each one of them and edit them manually.

Thanks again for your effort.
