Help please!!!How can i split Video file?

Post by dchegini »

Dear Friends
I captured family videos from my miniDV camera, cut them to smaller parts, deleted unfavorable parts, added some still pictures, music, transitions, video filters (using VS10+) , the completed project time exceeds than 3hr 15 min. then I made Video file (more than 12GB) and i want to split the Video file to 3 part (to burn each part in one DVD). How can i split the Video file. I have tried splitting it by VS10+ (inserted the Video file in timeline as a new project, cut it to 3 parts and deleted the first and third parts then made video file) but the result was disappointing, pictures and sounds was out of sync and also lots of flickers has been appeared.
I will really appreciated if you kindly help me to solve the problem.

Doing it that way loses one generation of picture and sound quality, and the reason for the audio sync slipping would be that you had 'Smart Render' enabled. If you still have your project in all its component parts, in other words the project still exists in the form prior to your render and creating a video file, then use the 'Create Video File' option again, but this time using the 'preview range' to set the in and out points for the file to be rendered. Video Studio will now render just the section of your project that you selected within the previw range. Call that section 1 of 3. Now do the same thing using the preview range for sections 2 and 3. You now have three rendered files, each of which can be burnt to DVD.

Hi

The method that Terry suggests is as good as any other.

But it may have been better to make several projects rather than a big one to start with.
Editing being easier, individual rendering shorter.

The method you used to cut your video and re-render should not have caused that much problem anyway.
(You could have used the Library to store the three sections.)

Reading between the lines I would suspect your project/video properties are incorrect.

You say you captured from a MiniDV camera.
What capture properties and project properties did you use?

Thanks for your attention and replies;
Both captured videos and project properties are as following:

MPEG-2 Video-Lower field first
24bit,720x576-4:3
25 frames/sec
Variable bit rate (max 8000kbps)

initially I have rendered the project as terry described (selected 3 parts and rendered each part in each stage) but in rendered video , sound and pictures were not sync and also the flickers have been appeared. so I rendered the project in a single Video file as i described before. I am really confused and seriously need help.
I will appreciated if you kindly continue helping me.
Thanks millions

Make sure that when you render you select 'same as project properties' as the render settings and that the 'Smart Render' check box is not checked.

Hi Dariush Chegini

Thanks for the capture settings,

Can you do a test capture and check the drop frame counter.

This is located to the lower right of the information screen
The drop frame counter should not show any number greater than zero.
You should have no drop frames.

Capturing and editing in Mpeg is not a good idea.

It is best to capture to DV format from your Mini DV via firewire.
The capture file is DV-Avi at 13 Gb per hour.

Please read the recommended procedure at the top of this forum.
Then read my guide from the link below

Dear Trevor and Terry;
Thanks millions.
I disabled Smart rendering as Terry recommended and partially rendered the project in three stages and burned each video file to one DVD and problem has been solved.
it seems source of all the problems was "Smart render"
Thanks a lot for your kindly attentions.

Dear friends;
regarding the priviously mentioned problem, should I disable "Smart Render" in all project? and if the answer is yes, who knows why?
Best Regards

Now that’s a good question.

Smart Render technology is very good and does reduce the render times.
VS 8 had lots of audio out of sync’ found to be associated with smart render.
I think we may have advanced since then.

Afaik the process checks the first render to identify any changes in the file.
Subsequent renders only affect the changes, this reduces the render times.
Smart render will work when rendering ‘like’ files, that is mpeg to mpeg.
Avi to Mpeg requires all frames to be rendered.
Rendering mpeg at 8000 kbps to 6000 kbps requires a full render.

If I find a problem with my video’s then I will try disabling smart render.
Problems are very few.

Try a test on a short video, render it add a transition and render again to the same settings.
Check the render times.

I have smart render activated.
