Backing Up Files on VS9

Post by DGV »

Hi there, I have 2 files of captured footage that i want to copy to a portable hard drive. There are two avi files (uvs06xxxxx.avi) - 1 is 5GB the other is 9GB.
When I go to copy them to the portable device, it says there isnt enough memory in the portable device. I work in an electronics factory, and have tried a 40GB device, a 60GB device and a 120GB device (all empty) and all different brands, but i get the same error. To rule out PC error i tried to copy a 20GB audio folder, and it worked fine, so i can only put it down to something with the AVI file.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the erroneous 'free space' error when i try to copy the VS9 AVI file?
Cheers.

Hi

I do not think it is a Ulead problem.

I do not think it is something within the Avi file.

When you tried 20Gb this contained multiple files and folders.
May-be the problem is the size of the individual files rather than the content.

I feel it is a PC related problem.

Are they any limitations to the amount of data/memory you can handle.
User limitations, disc quotas etc.

Just my first thoughts, but faulting PC’s is not my strong subject.

What is the file system used on the portable devices? Anything else than NTFS will choke on a file size over 4GB.

Thank you both for your replies. Heinz - you are a genius. I didnt even think of the file system!!! The portable HDD's were all FAT32!

Thanks again!

Thanks mate. I usually don't see the forest for the trees either  It helps to be removed from the "problem". Trevor actually hinted at this also. :)

Just glad we got it sorted. :)

Hi Heinz Oz

Nice one Heinz
Fat 32. Now why didn’t my brain go there. Such a common problem.

The grey matter must be slowing.

Thanks again Heinz
