Cut and Paste a movie segment from one project to another?

Post by rcxue »

Hi

As a newbie, I made a large movie, then realized it would be better to break it up into several smaller ones.

I have sound clips, transitions, titles, etc, all added for the single movie (the big one).

I then used the COPY function (selected a block of clips, right clicking in the clip window). Now I close the current project, and create a new one.

I then use the EDIT menu, PASTE function, to paste the copied clips into the current movie - this actually only pastes the video clips into the library video list (on the right side of the screen). I would have to select all the clips and drag them into the project layout.

Now I lost all the sounds, transitions, etc within the copied clips. So I had to go back, and reinsert all missing pieces...what a tedious process.

My expectation was the COPY function would copy everything, sound and titles included.

Does anyone know how to copy a block of clips including effects and transitions, and paste them into another project?

What I would do in this situation - RENDER the project (the big one) via share - create video file. I prefer to deal in avi files, as they are easier to edit.
Now start a new project and import the newly created video file. Skim through it, and use the scissors to cut it wherever you want. This will break it into two pieces. Delete the second (or first..) piece out of the timeline, and render the remaining piece to another shorter video file. You will have all the transitions and effects intact.

Before deleting the clips from the timeline drag them to the library, you will then have a copy of each section. Render each section to create seperate files.
