Capture Hang

Post by Nobber »

Hello been using Pinnacle for sometime and have not got the time to sort lipsync problems, moved to Ulead 9 when I capture for a Sony MicroMV Ulead seems to capture ok but when the capture finishes, Ulead just hangs, cpu is going at 60% and the mpg file has been created on my hard drive

any ideas, I have read a few of the FAQs and searched but can't seem to find any clues, can someone point me in the right direction

thanks

If you manage to close VS and then re-open it, does the capture file work OK? Can you also tell us the format and properties of the captured file and something about your work process in connecting the camera and getting VS to recognise it. In all this, I assume you have set the capture plug-in to MicroMV?

Hello Ken

thanks for the reply

The file Mpeg-2 Video Upper field first,6,121 Frames, 24bits, 720*576, 4:3
25fps data rate 12000kbs
File size is only 365,952kb and lasts 244 seconds

I have the Sony connected via firewire and I am using the Micro MV plugin

thanks

Thanks for that. But does the file work once you re-open VS?

More generally, you may be aware that MicroMV is a very problematic format, and even Sony, who developed it, has dropped support for it. Frankly, I am surprised you even managed to get VS to capture it. Though it has a MicroMV plug-in, you one of only a very small number of people who have actually succeeded in capturing anything at all with it!

You might have better luck "capturing" with whatever Sony software came with your camera.

Then, you should be able to edit the resulting file with Video Studio. I think that file is going to be MPEG, which has caused some of us lots of trouble (including "lip sync" problems).

In case you do have trouble editing the MPEG, you might try converting it to AVI/DV. I've had some luck with a universal conversion program called SUPER (FREE!!!). But, I was using SUPER for a different type of conversion, so I'm not sure if it will work for you.

I noticed 2 faults in the above.
1. You need to capture to DV type 1 (AVI) not MPEG
2. You should be capturing Lower Field First.

John
Interesting links, also confirms what most of us have been stating for a long time about the MPEG format. I have copied your post to the
