Anybody know why there is a 1/2 inch black vertical line on the right side of the screen when capturing from a VCR in VideoStudio 10 Plus?
Is the right resolution to capture 640x480 or 720x480?
Black line on right side of video

I have the AIW 2006; it is a piece of crap, it thinks that all my VHS have Macrovision (they don't); yesterday I bought a USB 2 capture device at Compusa and magically I can view/record what I can't using the ATI software.TDK1044 wrote:I see you have the ATI X600 AIW PCIe capture card. Very good card. ATI has great capture software. Try using the ATI capture software rather than Ulead and use the 720X480 default DVD setting.
Do you know the answer to the first question?
The black line you describe would suggest a timing/sync error during capture. I have to say I'm surprised if the latest ATI AIW card is not good. I used ATI AIW cards for years with various versions of video studio with excellent results. They do prefer talking with the ATI software rather than Ulead though. Does the black line occur during a capture to the ATI software as well as Ulead?

It is a solid line, as if the video was truncated; I just finished looking at the output if I send it out to the TV; there it displays fine (the video fills the whole screen).TDK1044 wrote:The black line you describe would suggest a timing/sync error during capture. I have the AIW 7500 Radeon and only had minor problems with it (the capture problem mentioned earlier with the 2006 I don't have with the 7500). I don't recall if the black line problem occurs when capturing through the ATI card, I am not using it to capture and neither am I using MMC.
If I capture TV through the AIW (at least it doesn't think that has Macrovision), the line on the right side is a little bit smaller on the LCD display. If I record it and send it out to the TV, it is perfect.
