picture quality
Further to my capture enqiry, I followed thesetiings etc. suggested. When I capture vide from my Sony DCR P55E onto a Dell Dimension5150 etc. the picture quality still isn't as good as on the screen on the camcaorder. Even when I burn it to disc the quality does not improve. Any suggestions before I throw the whole lot out and revert to the still camera!!!!

One of your previous posts asks about capturing via USB2 vs. Firewire. Which are you using? If you are using USB2 that could be your problem. What you really need to do is tell us, in detail, your capturing procedure, your clip properties, and your project properties. Also fill in your system specs.

I don't know what a Sony DCR P55E is.... If it is a digital camera that records to DV tape, then you can "capture" the digital audio & video directly to an AVI/DV file (usually via Firewire) with absolutely no quality loss!
As a quick check, your file size should be about 13GB per hour. If you transfer a full 60 minute tape, and your file is smaller than that, you are getting some additional compression.... for some reason.
Of course, there will be some qualtiy loss if you later compress the fie to MPEG-2 for a DVD.
